Not sure if you have discussed it yet. But is there any idea of how much one of these babies will cost landed, complied and registered? Obviously without the R36 awd conversion :P

This has only just been released in NZ, it's there first car and I have taken it...Hahaha But if you wait to buy a second hand one you will save 10k plus or even more...

Good work AP. I am sure you will be satisfied with your birthday present this year lol....
Look forward to the build thread, who will be doing all the mechanical work?
Are you going to find a wrecked R32 for the AWD driveline?
Most of the work will be done by HPA Motorsport!! I purchased a water damaged 2008 R32 a while ago now.. It will run the complete R32 running gear with a Twin turbo R36 engine...
Can't wait to see this with my blurry eyes Ap! Awesome!
Beautiful and the right colour too.
All I can say os WOW.
WOW WOW WOW lol.
That beast is gonna turn heads (even without the r36 engine in it lol)
:p :D
Damn, that's impressive.
I heard the US shop bought one from Canada to do the conversion since they didn't get that model in the US. Can't believe you'll have one in Australia!

HPA brought one from Germany, then put the full drive line from a r32 and strapped twin turbos on it!!
Check out the "worlds first" thread for all the info!!

Awesome! I'm a big fan of the Scirocco and would definitely get one if available locally. VW Aust stated that they'd cannibalise sales from 3dr Golf - so what!? Imagine the extra sales that they'd get from other brands aswell, very shortsighted...

He did mention it coming from NZ.
I actually thought you brought it in under the used car rule. Mad props to you sir for buying it brand spanking new. Altho I'm actually surprised it took this long, the new car eligibility (ie under 500km) was listed a year ago, were you waiting on availability in NZ?
Have they given you an estimate on how long till it's registered and on the road?
Sorry Funkymonkey not able to dicuss that on here!!!

Thank's Nath!
Well to be honest guys there won't be any Scirocco updates on the internet due to some knobs taking illegal video's without consent and then posting them up on Youtube!!
To be very honest I'm sick and tired of all the BS and slander on other forums about me and my cars and how I earn my money!! I know it's my fault for posting in the first place, So
I'm going to be the one to put an end to it!
I build the cars for my self and from now on I'm going to enjoy them for myself!!
I know there will be a lot of you pissed at me for this but I have three kids, wife and business that are far more important than having some one say sick car mate!!! Hahahaha
I'm sorry to read this, Anthony as you're an amazing example of commitment to excellence.

That's a shame dude but understandable.
So how/when can we, the non haters, see the final product?
Thats fair enough Anthony, completely understandable.
You'll always get that on the internet though, doesn't matter if its a car, bike, computer, house, system or something else completely....there are always going to be people out there trying to ruin the fun.
Envy is a funny thing on the internet.

I think nearly all of us here appreciate not just the amount of money spent but the passion, time and effort it takes to build and maintain the sort of cars that you own. I say good on you. Don't let anyone else spoil the fun.

Im pretty sure hes talking about someone else here.
nah mate i think its aimed at me. I actually took a video of an entrants car because it was a very nice and amazing car at today's event and without even thinking i posted it on youtube. In another thread Anthony made a comment to this video and i actually realised i shouldnt have posted it and agreed on his comment and quickly removed the offending video.
to be really honest i think i'm going to do the same and bail out from this forum. there seems to be this thing about this forum where one has to carefully word his post for the fear of offending some one. It's like tip toeing on thin ice....its just so fragile in here. This is in no way aimed at the moderators or admin on this forum because they actually do a good job controlling this forum.
But its losing some of the spontaneity of what a true forum is about where one can share their thoughts and opinion, laugh and joke and just be who they really are without the fear of offending someone or hurting some one's ego etc.
This whole forum almost appears to focus on stroking people's ego and nurturing that ego till it gets bigger and bigger. It's a lot of back slapping and a lot of group hugs. (this is my thought and opinion and is in no way a reflection of the members of this forum many who I have met and think are very nice people)
to steal a line from anthony i modify cars for my own joy and amusement and its a passion i loved sharing. but i'm losing the joy of forums that i once had.

After reading anthony's post makes me wonder. Why do we have forums? Why did I sign up?. Well for me the drives, learning more about my car, buying and selling stuff, socializing with a good group of people. Perhaps some of us are getting too old for forum banter.Regardless AP has been a Beacon for us all.

AP i'll assume this comment was aimed at me specifically. have sent message to you. welcome to respond. cheers
Rob he isn't referring to you
I'm really sorry it came to this; so many people had been supportive, very interested in the story and the progression of this for Anthony and appreciative of his contribution to the car scene in Australia.
Life has its ups and downs and some things can put hobbies into perspective, like family/relationship, work, home, health or other personal issues.
We've even sadly had people from one of our drives later have a fatal accident. It is such a waste and so sad.
I think we should try to be available and around for people when they need it. Iam only saying this because I have had some experience of this recently and a friend is dead and we had no idea until he was dead.
We shouldn't take this forum fun too seriously; life is too precious to not enjoy our time here.
I hope that everyone reading this thread can reflect on their behaviour on and off the forum, their dealings with people and think about what matters in life. Then come here to enjoy the discussion of our cars and fun that can be shared. :)
Thanks, everyone. There's so much more to life than this place, even though it is a fun place to be.
Ben
PS. Hopefully, in time, we can learn more about this Scirocco and any future Scirocco projects. It is such a great project car. :)

There will always be jealous people and knobs around.. You don't want a forum that is too precious either where you can't give an opinion without offending others, so it's a bit of a balance.
Would be good to see how the Scirocco project turned out, I think most people here are appreciative of AP's work and sharing his cars with us.
Androo
11-08-2010, 12:22 PM
That's sad to hear, I was talking to you at the Galston Gorge cruise and now after reading this it's a tease we won't be getting updates about the scirocco.
But we have to keep in mind that it's polite to ask people for permission to take photo/video of your belongings but in a public place permission is not needed, as long as number plates are hidden there isn't a law that stops people taking photos of yourself, children or cars as long as it's not used to sell or profit on. That's the law, that's how photographers get away with it. Always nice to ask.
I have great respect for you AP, followed from day one the R32TT build thread and tried your restaurant mmmm very yummy. Family always comes first. Would be interested in an update if it's possible some how :(
OK I dont get it - since when are people talking shit about AP, his cars, and how he earns his money etc? I havent seen any of this?
Neither have I seen or heard people disrespecting AP. Not in this forum anyway. I respect everyone's decision and in this case AP's but the one thing that remains common in this forum is the sharing of knowledge. Personally, this is the primary reason why I am on this forum. To share information and if it is interpreted as "showing off", or boasting in accords or simply telling the world that I have so much cash I can do what I want with it, then its their own personal interpretation of what is being shared. Nothing wrong with that as long as that does not get turned around negatively and back fire on you. In AP's case, it looks like it has back fired on him, and is not his fault in anyway by the way, its just that people are people and the 7 deadly sins are in all of us.
However, truthfully, I dont care if you have bought a 1M dollar car or have done a 1 dollar mod. The fact you have shared it with us is good enough for me. Its now up to me to interpret that and if you have a solid mind about you, then you need to taper those 7 deadly sins.
I dont necessarily agree with Robby_Jai's comment either that this forum is like threading on thin ice. My interpretation on Robby's comment is just that we simply are being asked to think the words before saying it, be more mature, and have some sense of respect and decency. These are qualities that humans should pursue anyway but there will always be people who will post before thinking, that are jealous or bitter, bullies or simply wanting to ignite negative responses because they feel its funny and entertaining. There is a famous saying that goes "if you have nothing constructive to say, then dont say it".
All the best AP. I'll be seeing you around for sure.
Androo
11-08-2010, 12:41 PM
I'm still trying to find ways of making more money :P I guess it's normal for us to question sometimes as long as it doesn't get personal or a personal attack. If you know what i mean, as humans we are curious and it's not a bad thing. I can see what Robby is trying to say, i guess it's like that anywhere really... it's not something to leave a forum for though.
If anyone has visited his restaurants which we have on a meet (I went with a group outside the forum) and recommended to another group of mates and they also liked it.
Hope you are still sticking around Anthony.

Its really sad to hear this....from a perspective of a uni student/younger member its been very motivating/inspiring seeing members like Anthony and the many other members here who have pursued their passion for cars and shared it with everyone here.
Agreeing with what Jig said, anyone that has put in an effort to share their experiences, joys and knowledge should be respected and treated with common courtesy.
I do hope you will come back at some point to show us how it all pans out with the Scirocco.
Good luck!

Its just sad really. Forums (I feel) are designed so that one can learn, come together as a community and respect one another. But again as Jose said, there are always going to be idiots who are jealous, bullies, bitter or just plain stupid.
On another forum (many will know which one), I have seen both AP's and Jig's thread be bombarded with crap by idiots being just that...idiots. It just seems like these guys have nothing better to do than to critisize someone, then it becomes a personal thing asking about how this person can afford such mods, then they question someones earning capacity, what they do for a living, etc etc. I mean, seriously...why?
It's like that on other forums where you see someone who is 25 and has, for example, a Honda DC2R....then you see someone who is 18 and has a brand new S2K. (I'm using Honda as an example here). Now some pple would be like "wow, you're 18 and you have an S2K? I wish I had that when I was 18..." then you have some pple who say "so your parents buy that for you? I hate it when rich kids come to flaunt how much money they have...I'm 25 and I've bought every single one of my cars on my own". etc etc. They put down this new kid down before he has done anything. I mean, at the end of the day, who really cares? Does it really matter that someone is better off than you and can afford to have an S2K when they are 18 and you couldn't? Does this mean that the S2K guy is a bad person for being rich? Its this sort of attitude which brings the forum down....but sadly, its something that can't be eliminated as like Jose said, it's human nature and everyone is different. The only thing that can be done is to moderate it as much as possible if a forum is to become a strong community.
These are the sorts of people who are jealous and want to drag you down to their level by acting like idiots. More often than not, theyre the ones who envy you the most and thus, the term "hater" is applied as it can manifest into that. My motto has always been "haters hate, so let them do their job". >D And its best if you surround yourself with like minded individuals than those who see the world as owing them a fortune because they;re not where they want to be.
Great thing I found about this forum was that there is a lot of respect for one another. Probably because the average age group is a lot more mature than some of the other meets i've been to in the past.
AP, I know you're not but dont let this kind of sh1t get to you. Ignore it. U have a successful business, married with 3 kids and a great collection of cars. If there are haters, let em hate buddy! NO need to justify anything. Ignore the tornado of bullsh1t that might get swept around you and just focus on the positive :)
Hope to still see you around at the meets mate!!

Why do people automatically think just because people ask certain questions they are haters? Human beings are curious and we ask questions to find out things we like to know. You don't always get answers to questions, and sometimes you do. It's normal.
It's like having a discussion about APR/GIAC/Bluefin, you have certain people who are willing to discuss and certain people who just want to have a war and parade on one product.
A forum won't be the same if you take away the "different" people. If everyone is the same it will be boring, even in the real world.

AP this feels like history repeating from when you first joined golfmkv.com and people pried a little about the Lotus and your plans for the R32.
I don't know what the video stuff is all about, but if you don't want the odd jibe / query about your situation or (amazing) car collection then you're right - it is better not posted.
But in most cases it is adoration and curiosity about the successes you've had in life, not anyone trying to bring you down or attack you, and certainly not your family.
Family stuff is another matter altogether (I don't know why that was bought up), but any threat there would make me close accounts immediately.
But - and I'm being 100% honest here and not having a go - no one does this stuff purely for themselves. We ALL seek approval from others in one way or another. Forums are a great way to see responses from people who share your interests.
Shiiit - even this post is history repeating.
Ah yeah I remember that, the turbo R32 and James being a cop and telling AP to get it engineered etc.

What's wrong with that? It could be a friendly suggestion, or a heads up in case he does get pulled over one day. I don't see any issue with things like that, it's a car forum and expect people to have an input. If you don't want peoples inputs don't post on a forum. It works two ways. Take Byza's approach, it's nice to hear the good and bad. But if someone threatens you or family that's a completely different matter all together.

As long as the person isn't a tosser about it and rurbbing it in everyone's face then don't see the problem. I wouldn't argue if someone bought me a car, but some of us have to pay for it ourselves.

Amusing ^
I can see both sides, the potential for personal information (videos included) is too easy to be dumped on to the internet for any prying eyes. Whilst ever you have a tight knit community, information spreads. Fast.
I have not seen any public slandering on this particular forum towards AP which is great. At the end of the day though if it has happened elsewhere and it's how he feels, then s be it. Highly disappointing because his level of investment (not just monetary) has really helped expose a great brand that is VW.
Anything that involves family is simply not on.
It also has to be taken in to consideration the "image" portrayed by people on the internet. Unfortunately it's not a true test of character, and it seems plenty of negativity is directed towards people such as Anthony. Australia and it's tall poppy syndrome?
In any case, those that are just coming in will have an example of what not to do (if AP leaves), those that stay will have to soldier on, and I'm sure he has made enough friends/acquantainces on here to keep himself busy. So many people humping his leg! :P
Wish you all the best, hope all travels well champion :)

G;day Jo,
www.dotars.gov.au is the Aust Govt regulator of private imports; if you have owned the car while residing overseas for 12mths of ownership, then you would be able to do it if you're reading the full info and filling in the forms correctly.
Let me find something more specific, but that's it in a nutshell. If not owned while residing OS for 12mths then you'd have to pay a lot to get it complied. Contact AP and his Scuderia Imports contacts - it's taken what seems ages to get the paperwork / SEVS or whatever compliance license sorted.
Did you buy the Scirocco in December 2010 or before and reside the past year under a long white cloud?
I think all Kiwi people who've owned a Scirocco for a year should 'migrate' long enough to complete the sale of their car and have an enjoyable 'residence' holiday before returning across the ditch and doing it all over again. :)

The personal imports scheme allows migrants settling in Australia, and expatriate Australian citizens returning permanently to Australia after a long period overseas, to bring their personal vehicles with them.
Currently, applicants may import one vehicle (under the scheme) every 12 months.
After 18 November 2010, applicants may only import one vehicle (under the scheme) every 5 years.
Purpose of the amendment
This change to the vehicle quota was introduced by the Australian Government under the Motor Vehicle Standards Amendment Regulations 2009 (No. 1). The change was implemented via an amendment to paragraph 13(1)(e) of the Motor Vehicle Standards Regulations 1989, please see item 14 of the Amending Regulations. The purpose of the amendment is to more accurately focus the personal imports scheme onto the original policy intent.
Previously, the scheme had been open to expatriate Australians regularly importing a vehicle every year whilst remaining overseas. These vehicles by-passed normal certification arrangements. The amendment is designed to prevent abuse of the scheme without impacting upon genuine migrants and expatriate Australians returning to Australia after spending long periods of time overseas.
Transitional arrangement
The amendment will commence on 18 November 2010 after a 12 month transitional provision.
The Amending Regulations are available from Comlaw. You can download a copy of the regulations and the Explanatory Statement describing the effect of the change.
A consolidated version of the Motor Vehicle Standards Regulations 1989 is available from Comlaw.

Hi Jo, back when I was working for J-Spec Imports we helped a fair few NZudders bring their cars over as personal import. The process gets you a gold compliance plate, and isn't as stringent as the regular compliance process. It can also be carried out by a larger selection of VASS' nationally rather than be limited to being complied by RAWS.
Most often you don't need to return a lot back to standard either, as long as you can meet EPA (sometimes fixed by just detuning if you have a modded car) standards and have items like airbags, seatbelts etc which are determined by the ADR standards for when the car was manufactured. The VASS will be able to guide you as to what may need to be changed anyway.
In order to be eligible for import though, you need to be able to prove that you've owned the car for a period of 12 months or longer. This means things like fuel dockets, service books, insurance policies etc will expedite the process.
If you need any help with it all drop an email to info@j-spec.com.au and ask for Craig, he's a kiwi expat himself, so knows the process like the back of his hand.
Hope that helps.

Would buy this car in a heartbeat!NZ is a non manufacturing country, ie they don't have any local manufacturers' interests to protect or shield from cheaper foreign cars (by way of taxes, duties, etc) nor do they have a national design standard like we do (ADRs) therefore anyone can import anything into NZ. Australia is a totally different kettle of fish. We're more like America in that sense. I wouldn't go holding my breath for VW to bring em out here unless it's a brand new worldwide revision.

well if you haven't owned it for 12 months yet, then it has to come in under the RAWS scheme, and most RAWs will require it to be standard, or will swap the parts on your car for standard parts for purposes of compliance. technically they are meant to destroy the parts that they take off the car to return it to standard, but most often if you can make arrangements with them to "find the parts in a dumpster behind the workshop"... if you know what I mean.
If your car isn't that heavily modded (ie mostly bolt on mods), then I'd recommend talking to the RAW that will be compliancing your car to see if an arrangement can be met. If it is heavily modded (ie structural changes to chassis, motor etc) then I'd look at selling the car and importing another in Australia. Keep in mind importing a car into NZ means you've already paid taxes on it, you'll have to pay more taxes on the same car when it's brought into Australia.
Or you could just wait till you have owned it for 12 months then ship it!

Not much mods, just wheels, suspension and brakes therefore can be easily put back to factory set up :)
ok will talk to RAW agent, yeah another option is parting the parts and selling the car.

ok will talk to RAW agent, yeah another option is parting the parts and selling the car.
here is the SEVS entry that makes your car eligible for entry under the RAWS scheme:
http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/sevs/632-00.htm
Currently there are no approved RAWS (workshops) that can comply the car to the Australian Standards required to bring your car into the system. AFAIK Scuderia is still in the process of getting their test vehicle approved, which can take anywhere from a month to a couple of years from experience, depending on a range of factors like how much the manufacturer likes to pressure DOTARS (the regulatory body) or what kind of history the workshop has had or simply how anal the assessor feels like being.
With that in mind your options are to wait till it reaches 12 months and then move over (not sure how passionate you are about your car, but I'd say that's kinda silly). Or sell your car, buy something local to keep you mobile, and then when a RAWS is approved to compliance them, then look at importing one for them to comply.
You can search the RAWS who can comply your car here:
http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RAWPubSearch.asp
It's updated nightly so you'll know as soon as they get it.
Hi all,
can anyone please direct me to the right way of importing my VW Scirocco R from NZ?

Actually, if you already own the car, then it's probably best to check out the Customs website (http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4371.asp) and leave Scuderia Imports out of it (maybe???).
Your car looks HAWN too!!!

To get a VIA you need to bring the car in under the RAWS scheme (Scuderia) or have owned it for more than 12 months with proof (personal import). Hence the posts above ;)

Scirocco is the biggest non-event in AUS unfortunately.
Hope they make it here one day but plenty more choice anyway with 3/5door GTI's and R's.

But how do the Scirocco R's compare to the Golf R's? Are they quicker?http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/23.gif

They are quicker because they are lighter and handle nicer with a lower centre of gravity and wider track.
but the lack of awd means that getting traction off the line will be a lot harder. Id say a tuned golf R would eat one off the line.

This is for AP. Found this on the RForum.co.uk thread
If this is a taste of whats to come, then this thing is gonna be an absolute weapon.
Not a fan of the front bar or the bodykit to be honest (or the wheels), but damn....the figures are scary!!!
Cant wait to see your beast AP!
Copy/paste job from the thread. This is Alex's HPA Scirocco (AP You know him or know of him)
Here's a friends Scirocco...
I offered to marry him, but he wants me to sign a prenupt...
It's the first of it's kind in the US
The first AWD conversion
The first VR6 conversion
The first twin turbo conversion
0-60mph in 3.2 seconds with an 11.3 1/4 Mile
The car is an absolute beast when pushed but as docile as a kitten when driven slowly.
The pictures really don't do justice to the level of detail, fit and finish that went into this conversion. HPA were on point for this conversion, right down to the MFD integration of boost and oil temperature...
Here are a few pics from The Texas Mile... taken last March during the Spring running.

why the secret forum?
why the secret forum?
Don't want the knobs following! Haha
Any update on when the Scirocco R can get a compliance plate?
What a long and tortured process that has been! That's how it looks, anyway.
Not yet! The wait is killing me.. I have a 750hp 3.6 Twin Turbo engine with a built DSG box, Kw clubsports, Massive brake set up and lots more goodies but I have no Scirocco R... Hahaha
