Hi Golfers, I need some advice.

A few weeks ago I was driving my Golf Gti 2002, and it suddenly started shuddering real bad and lost power dramatically, I also noticed a burning smell coming from the engine. I pulled over straight away and called the NRMA. The NRMA mechanic bet his life that it was a dodgy coil pack. So I towed it to my local mechanic and apparently the first coil pack had gone, so I got a new one put on and havn't had any trouble since, until this morning that is. Driving to work the same thing happened as a few weeks ago. Does anyone know if this is the coil packs, or does it sound like something else?

Thank you so much in advance for any advice you can offer, Cheers.

Did you replace 1 coilpack?

its not unheard of when 1 goes, the rest are close to going too.

Coil packs. They are like a suicide cult. They always go together.

Thanks for the super quick reply guys, lol, "suicide cult", yeh I only replaced the one that went, so it sounds like I might have to do the other 3? I've been reading that there was a VW recall on these dodgy packs, have you guys had any experience with this, and do you know if my car would be eligible?

Cheers.

Hi im new on this forum but i do know about the recall, call a vw service centre and have your vin number ready to give to them, they will confirm if your vin matches their records and will book you in to check the s/n on the coil packs, if they match they will replace all 4 :)
