Hi guys,

Here is a nooby silly question. I couldn't find the answer anywhere.
I need to know wheather or not to let go of my ARC Ti knob from my Honda. I would love to transfer it over to the GTI

What is the thread of the gearknob on a MKV GTI? If the thread if fine, it'll fit right. The stock knob doesn't have a weird lever thing on it to put it into reverse like alot of newer 6 speed cars nowadays?

Thanks in advance... *flame suit on*

Cheers,

Ricki.

ARC Ti, mmmm.... NICE!

Good luck, Rick. I honestly don't know, since my car is DSG.

Probably could so long as you go manual. There is no reverse lift so no need to accomodate for that. You just have to find the specs on the diameter of the gear shift. The aftermarket ones seem to be attached/tightened by screws to the sides.

Tendy, yeah, I love the ARC knob and I don't want to let it go. I want to carry something performance related (if you can call it that) over with me apart from a Yoshi doll and my AVI sound system.

I just sold $8000 worth of parts tonight from my DC2R, and still got PLENTY more to sell, plus the car, so this Golf GTI is going to come alot sooner than expected.

Anyone with a Golf GTI in manual, that can help??

I've got another question regarding sound systems in the golf, should I make a new thread. I feel bad making stupid pointless threads. haha

Check this out. Might help?

Look up the OSIR gear shift installation (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4196845)

Ahhh thanks for that link. It looks like there is no screw thread on the shiffter. That sucks! Never been a fan of those gearknobs that use screws to hold it in place. They always come loose.
That suede gear boot is wicked!! Where would you get stuff like that from?

GBJ-R32: where about is your thread for the sound system?

And agree on the shift knob which is why I am still sort of undecided. The suede boot is an OSIR part you can source from Rennenhaus. Comes in different coloured stitching. http://www.rennenhaus.com not on there but can contact him.

You guys are so useful! Thanks.

So rennenhaus is a shop, that sells euro parts? I saw he was a trader here, but I didn't know if it was a shop or a local parts manufacturer.

What ifffffff, you get the shifter threaded for a screw on knob? Sure that is possible, but no idea if I can be bothered for that. I'll just have to adapt to the stock knob. It can't be THAT bad. I just like smaller round knobs (no homo), and that's why I want to keep the ARC one.

...I just like smaller round knobs ...

That's what she said!

Useful? Usually I'm the one with lots of questions. If you do find a suitable solution for a new knob I'd be interested to know as well. My previous experience with one attached by way of screws was that it kept getting loose no matter if you tightened it tight or even if you maintained it regularly. But that was a Momo one with only one tightening screw. I notice that the OSIR one has three.

I did say (no homo) after! haha

I have to get my freaking car first hey! Better yet, sell my parts and then my current car, and then hunt for a perfect GTI. I'm getting ahead of myself, but as least I know exactly what I want to order. I'll have to have a look into gearknobs, because honestly, I can't stand stock gearknobs. The stock DC2R one was great, and if you wanted to buy it from Honda it'll cost you $400. But normal leather ones annoy me.
Everyone with aftermarket knobs, show us your knobs!
