If you can afford it then go for it, but with no engineers cert or rego it might be an expensive exercise.

^^ its what i was thinking, am in SA so rego wouldnt matter, its the mot bit of it (roadworthy cert?) that im wondering about and also the fact that it says 2.7l for a vr.
didnt want to bombared the seller with a torrent of questions if there was a build thread or suchlike knocking about.
speak to Matt White at Camden GTI. I believe he did the VR6 conversion on it so should be able to give you a good idea of the cars condition

If you are going to buy a car from an interstate seller i wouldn't be shy about asking questions. Ask as many as you can, especially with a car as expensive as this one.
All the engine conversion work was done by professionals at Camden GTI (http://www.camdengti.com/) in Sydney so i'm sure the conversion works well. The seller is here on vwwatercooled (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f23/fs-1986-golf-mkii-gti-64221.html).
Just be aware that none of the car but the shell is original so ask where all the parts came from. I think the 2.7 thing is a typo as the seller seems pretty clued up on the car.
If you want the car, go for it but go into it with your eyes open and make sure all your questions are answered.

Thought you might be an Englishman, the MOT bit was a give away :D Where about's are you from?
Sadly MK2's are slim pickings over here.
