Hi guys and girls, just bought my first car a 1997 mk3 GL 2.0L 8v 5speed manual.
Was wondering if there were any worth while modifications i can make, such as headers and an exhaust, to improve overall performance and efficiency.
Any tips are welcome and any tips on maintaining the car as well are welcome.
thanks :), Phillip.

P.S im on my learners at the moment and in victoria soon to get my P plates in a few months.

Tuning a 2.0 can be very expensive for not much result. Headers & exhaust will give a bit more shove and sound a bit better but it won't be that big a power increase.

As it's your first car maybe think about getting it looking good before tuning. Lower the suspension a bit, stick on some nice wheels and enjoy your new found freedom.

Maintenance wise, just get it serviced regularly & keep on top of any issues that may crop up and the car will last you for years.

Thanks for the advice, I've already got it lowered and it has some very nice alloys on it too. Looks very nice.

As for the performance I may just wait and see what needs to be done by a mechanic before I modify anything but I do want it so sound better and a little bit more push would be good :) Plus at my age I have the extra money to spend. thanks again.
