Dirty Mk1 Project

[Type 17]

Hey so i figured i would start a thread on my mk1, which now that the r32 is nearly built, I am turning my attention towards.
bought this one two years ago.

As some of you know i drove it for a while but since the thing was yellow sticker material i decided to retire it while i continued to collect parts, a hobby i have had for nearly 10 years now.

I have owned a number of parts cars, and have always wanted to make something different, interesting out of the a1 chassis.

At the moment I'm still throwing around ideas, but a front or mid engined rear wheel drive setup is on the cards.

I have not decided on powerplant but i think most of you know the kind of thing im into so we will see where this goes.

In my office i have fresh bushings for the whole car, new weitec coils on koni shocks, new seals everywhere, cleaned and mildly tinted windows, chrome wing mirrors, a perfect dash that will be trimmed in leather or alcantara, a bunch of stuff to fit straight into the refurbed chassis.

The following photos are old mainly, and i have ditched the vinyl and tartan idea for dry carbon, i have carbon fenders, hatch, bonnet, spats, euro bumpers in the mail. but hey i thought id post them up anyway, I will send the chassis off to the sandblaster pretty soon and the doors hatch and bonnet of to the paint shop soon. ;)

i also have got a hydraulic handbrake, and a dual master cylinder brake bias box, to run each end of the car seperately, mk3 stub axles and wilwood rear disc setup might give a hint to whats going on ;) there are some clues in the photos too.

Subscribed :). The R32 is going well Pedro I had the battery replaced that's what was causing the problem, as the battery needed replacing. I have always loved MK1's I was considering 1-2 months ago a project it may happen I just have to find a rust free shell.

Got totally fucked over by mulsanne, had ordered, front quarters, rear hatch, hood, doors, and a bunch of other stuff in fiberglass and carbon respectively, and then they went out of business.

No I would liken it more to that of something nobody that i know of has done.

although it will be mostly white, and have a lot of carbon.

So my girlfriend cut sick at me when the car that said I was building for her wasn't going to have any rear passenger seats, a full roll cage and either a turbo VR or 2.7TT v6 in the place of the rear seats, and has cut me down to a 4 cylinder limit, and (flame away, wants an auto), i thought about saying fuck you and buy your own car then but, i decided she is probably right, still not sure what to do now, have been looking at 2.2 5 bangers thinking i could perhaps do something a bit different there, but maybe, just maybe i can shoehorn the 2.7tt into the front of it i have to take some measurements.

i guess what will most likely happen is ill build up a reckless 15:1 8V, using diesel pistons and crank or an ABF on horns or 1.8t with a bit of a tune, i just loved the idea of a mid engined-rwd-vr6 mk1. oh well at least i managed to talk her out of the rear seats, definitely want side impact protection so a cage is still a must, just a discrete one, probably make it from chromoly that way i can get it super thin and hide it within bits of the interior.nice big fuel cell to sit in and around the spare tyre well, and new carpets.....

hmmm power plants, Sooty? mk5 dsg?(saw one at a local workshop the other day) tsi? w8? someone give me a decent engine. one things for sure if this thing ends up FWD, ill be running full slicks all the time cause i want dirty power.

oh and no mulsanne fucked a bunch of people over they went out of production, and o lnger make the carbon and fireglass stufff i wanted, so no i did not get my parts. but fuckit, the car weighs nothing anyway, doesn't, need much to make it go quick.

I have everything i need now, but i have a long road ahead of me before i can fix up the car.
I have been battling with an addiction for some time now, and have for the fifth? but final time have kicked it,

I have an associate producing parts for mk1's

so far he has produced spats, euro bumper end caps in carbon, and is planning on making GTI style a pillar trims and Full Gaurd Spats. he has been working on bumpers them selves and splitters should be ready any day now.

He already has four high gloss painted duckies made from GRP available, as well as some duckies available in an interesting, metal flake hologram effect. Once i have pics of the test parts being sent to me i will post but in the mean, time, if anyone is interested i will try and work out a bulk deal with him to produce five or so of each part concurrently as a sort of kit if people want that, or if anyone wants just one part then that is fine too.

Prices are reasonable but i need to figure out shipping and handling costs before i could properly quote anything. all prices would be subject to discounts based on orders placed.

So really just gauging interest.

The hologram ones, will be ready next week and would likely cost between ~170-200+shipping

The carbon ones likely available in two weeks . These are all the pics i currently have, but will take some more when i get home from holiday. Again, these are handmade to great care and with excellent attention to detail.
