Hmm wasnt as bad as I'd thought it was going to be, but that may be down to the double ep with the old winter olympic special.... it was still havily edited, funnily they cut the eric bana parts from the add out.
As I hadnt seen it have to say that road was amazing, please can someone take me there in a Ferrari California??!?!? anyone?
Justin Fox
16-02-2010, 09:59 PM
I hadn't seen the Romania section either, loved that but everything else was so old.....
they sure did have the scissors out... the original unedited versions are 1 hour in length without ads... so that shows how much is chopped to fit in commercial ads...
they did bring a new meaning to tunnel blasting though :)
nath_mk6
16-02-2010, 10:59 PM
Yeah hopefully its up on iTunes soon so I can see the whole ep, nothing better than chuckling on the train to work at 6.30am to Top Gear :)

Yep pain is the name, but as I start work at 7-7.30 on nice days I get to leave by 15.30 (joys of the public service I guess)
Nasty days like yesterday it was 12 hours from platform to platform, now that hurt....

I don't know man! I see a few R32 Golfs every single day out there, even more GTI's and even more non R32 and GTI MK4's and 5's! I'd say a LOT of people who once bought Japanese cars because they were cheap and reliable have gone out and bought a Golf. My mother and my sister included! Both of them own MKV's!

My mate with the B3 Passat wagon in Melbourne ordered a custom BagYard (http://bagyardairride.com/) kit (Austrian) via the US distributor and I think it was for $2400USD. I think the hardware fittings (valves, lines etc) he bought separately. So I would think you'd need to reserve at least $3000AUD, not including fitting... yeah a lot of money, but that's what you gotta do for that extra step!
From what I've read though, the BagYard kits are quality. They use Bilstein coilover struts and custom fit bags over them. The hardware to make this work is custom CNC'ed in their premises so they're made to their exact specs, and what's more they can shorten the struts in-house. There's a feature on them in the latest PVW magazine released in Australia (Dec '09) and after reading it, it makes it hard to consider any other type of suspension for the street.
Another popular airbag kit is made by Mason-Tech (http://mason-tech.com/airrideCW1.asp) in the US. I think it's safe to say most of the VAGs in the US that are on airbags were made by BagYard or Mason-Tech.

My car went into the dealer to have a module replaced in the climate control system.
After that the satnav hasn't worked since as they had to take everything in the dash out to get to it. Took the satnav out today (after running a scan with vcds and it popping up a few communication errors) to find that they have crushed my satnav antenna cable.
Literally, its flat in one section and the signal is degraded and drops out.
So pissed off.

Not sure, never serviced at VW?? Sure someone will chime in.
I paid $415 for my first service at Barloworld (10,000km)
Hopefully with mine they'll have an rns510 antenna lying around that they can replace it with.
I can't believe how incompetent some of their techs are though. Feeding the cable through is the easiest part of the job.

77TDI goes really well.

Justin Fox
25-02-2010, 11:58 PM
How well? I'm curious. I want to test drive a MK6.
The 77TDI is no GTI or R32 but considering it only has a mere 77kw it pulls very well. The DSG helps with the speedy gear changes.
I still managed a fair bit of tyre spin off the mark not really trying too hard. Its the torque that really helps it. Pulled every steep hill I went up without dropping down too much (back to 6th gear from 7th) with 3 adults in the car and aircon.
The 2.0 TDI engine would be heaps better. Gotta say though, it feels like it would be quicker 0-100 than the Mazda 6 I drive for work or atleast on par. And the 6 has a lot more power and probably more torque.
I really want to drive the 118TSI. They apparently are meant to go very well.

That is what VW Fivedock gave me today as a loan car - Black TDI
Very nice car to drive, I had a play with the adaptive suspension, not much difference to me ? Mine was Auto but no DSG insight. Great to zip around the city and can imagine fuel consumption to be a big +
As I was driving off from VW Fivedock,
I noticed a 3 guys from service reception checking my car out, 1 guy on his knees looking underneath, other 2 touching my wheels?
Which brings me back to what I mentioned earlier about leaving my car unattended in the hands of VW..
Sweating and cursing, I remembered that I reset my trip meter, so I best not see any km added when I pick my car otherwise - Time to get evil !
Justin Fox
26-02-2010, 02:19 PM
Hands off!!!
Pharkus
26-02-2010, 02:37 PM
Always take a photo of your dash before you get out. Trip computer set to zero doesn't mean much if it's reset to zero again. It's the k's that will really matter.
Or if you are like me and super paranoid. Take a photo of your odometer before you get out (do not reset especially if the Km's are high - say 200 or so, this makes it harder for them to duplicate). Send said photo by e-mail to yourself. Get the service manager to fill in and initial the odometer reading on your service schedule and initial yourself as well.
They will take the car out for a spin (I don't think that this can be avoided) to check for anything unusual. However, the kilometres should not be massive for doing this. Not sure if you can go along for the ride when they do (I haven't gotten that far yet!).
It's pretty stupid. First time I took my car in for a service, they neglected to fill in the odometer reading. As my service interval will always most likely be based upon time rather than kilometres travelled I could have piped up afterwards for them to explain away an increase of say a couple of hundred kms seeing as they neglected to fill that important detail in. Would like to hear the excuse for doing that many k's in my car for a service.

Done gents, I did take a pic prior drop off - don't worry this French fox is on his game :)
I just called them to see if it was ready - not yet and they will need to rebook my car as the parts are not available, got to be kidding !
I think they are planning a track day with my car ! yes lifestyle abuse has made me a little paranoid !
Frenchie I know what you mean.
I always get a very uneasy feeling leaving my car with VW. Its awful not being able to trust them. Not knowing if anything else is going to be broken.

However, having it serviced at the dealer you pay a little more for what should be less hassles for warrantly claims. I've done no mechanical mods (just stubby antenna and now rear OEM LED's), but I've had washer reservoir tank replaced - leaking, and also noisy flywheel replaced under warranty.
You gotta let it go sometimes (though last time I did that the missus kerbed a wheel)

Wow, seems a common thread, you and Cam having to rebook due to parts, took mine in for a warranty issue today (bloody drivers window switch doesnt work) and no parts in NSW, so on order and will call when it gets in.
Annoying this is that when the jimmied the switch panel out the damaged it, not too much of a problem as they will replace, but they appear to have damaged the interior materiel around the switch slightly, will be looking at this closely when they do the final fix....
Oh is that him?! I was wondering who was making all that racket

Back on the topic
Picked up my car from VW at 4pm...I took in for 3 jobs and a query in regards to DSG jerkiness.
2 of those jobs were cosmetic and 3rd being a blown brake light bulb.
Outcome of the day -
Cosmetic parts not in stock ! ( Even though I told VW about parts 4 weeks ago )
Bulb replaced @ $31.50
But biggest surprise was when Decepticons told me I would need a new Mechatronic !
Apparently VW think it is due the change of backpressure from my''Aftermarket Exhaust''
VW still don't guarantee new Mechatronic will solve problem.
So looks like I will be going back in 3 weeks once parts arrive from Germany..
What a day !!

Proper manual FTW! :D
I just got home from Barloworld @ Mascot - picked up some oil and a filter to do the 7,500km service myself this weekend. They quoted me $130 for the oil and $26 for the filter over the phone, but when I went down there the bill only came to $105 in total. They did ask me for the rego and if we had purchased the car there, so perhaps the discount was because we are an existing customer. Either way, $51 saving back in my pocket!
Some very nice cars in the lot down there at the moment.

Yeah some pretty screwed up people on there, it seems that people believe that a keyboard empowers and requires them to go beyond what is an acceptable norm, and head into the antisocial realms of looney tunes.
I dont know why people do it, but one or two people make comments and it seems to bring out the keyboard warriors, Mav is a pretty poor example most of the time, I mean he's very knowledgeable and all that but he has to be one very lonely and angry man to say some of the things that he says sometimes.
That is pretty screwed up! Really! With great power comes great responsibility (Spiderman) If you abuse that, the end result would be bad.
People get so engrossed in the cyber world they lost touch with reality.
There are a lot of angry and stressed people using the internet to vent out.
That is also why I really like this forum, because there is a sense of camaraderie between the Mods and the member.

My comfortline used to be a little like this. Not stale urine, more like sour milk kind of. It never happened all the time.
You will probably need to replace your pollen filters.
They do this at certain service intervals but you can do itself. I've got instructions floating around at home somewhere on how to do it.
My nose is still blocked.
Its horrible.
I'm all congested sounds like I've got a peg on my house. Sigh...

Oh wow!! The 918 is gorgeous.
Thanks John.
"The 918 Spyder prototype combines high-tech racing features and electro-mobility to offer a fascinating range of qualities: An emission level of just 70 grams CO2 per kilometre on fuel consumption of three litres/100 kilometres (equal to 94 mpg imp) truly outstanding even for an ultra-compact city car, on the one hand, combined with the performance of a super sports car and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 320 km/h (198 mph) plus, and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT, on the other."
Hmmm, hopefully by the time the 918 come out, I can buy it. LOL. The model that is.

The big day was finally here today.....moving house!
Been packing boxes and making trips every night nearly for the past couple of weeks. We've moved about 45mins out of town. If anyone has been down Nowra way in the last month or so, you would have probably seen a GT sport and GTI travelling together a LOT. You get a lot of looks when you drive around in the same shape (and colour) cars hehe. You also get so many try-hards trying to keep up, cut you off, merge in between you, try and drag you off etc.
Started at 7am and only just sat down now. ADSL probably won't be connected until Monday so I'll be posting from the 3G connection.
All I can say is......good night!
