Hi All,

It's a quiet day at work, just thought I would post some pictures of my ride, and attached my Dyno logs :)

My first car which I got when I turned 18 was a Black MK4 Golf GLE, it was awesome, as a first car. The only thing it was lacking was speed. When I was turning 20, I thought I would look at purchasing a GTI. I couldn't really afford a new one as they were pretty pricey two years ago for a MK5 GTI. I took a GTI for a test drive at Barloworld and fell in love. I couldn't stop thinking about it, but for the price they were asking, it was outside my price bracket. I started looking on Car Sales and found one 2005 GTI for $36,000 with Latte Leather and black, I thought that was pretty good, but quite old, one of the first from production and half MFD. My parents said that I should save a little more and buy a new one. I went again to have a look at the GTI's only to now see a Yellow GTI Pirelli on the showroom floor! The GTI now looked not as attractive, mum said, save a little more and get this one. I started increasing my shifts at work (at one stage I was working 7 days a week!!) In April 2009 I took delivery of my GTI Pirelli.

Initially, since I had never driven the Pirelli, despite the 'extras' I was somewhat disappointed in the way it drove in comparison to the GTI. It felt significantly slower moving off the line. That is when I discovered there are some modifications which can help eliminate these issues.

Firstly I would like to say that I love and hate these VW forums. I love them because there are fantastic members on here, some of which I have become really good friends with, even interstate. But I also hate them because every time I visit one of the forums, I find at least one more thing to add to my car. But seriously, I am extremely happy with my car, the way it runs and looks and looking back there is nothing I would do differently to my car if I had the chance again.

My Pirelli was purchased on 15 April 2009. A massive increase in performance over my previous MK4 Golf. There was a lot of confusion about driving this car on P-plates as it was turbo charged etc.. Luckily I got my license before July 2007. My car is Black 5 Door with DSG and Rear Sensors.

My First Modification:
Stubby Antenna from DubAddiction.

Then a ECU tune by GIAC. That fixed up most of my lag, I was extremely happy after doing this, thanks Lucas @ Eurospeed.

After getting my Pirelli the sound system was pretty ordinary compared to my previous system in my old golf.

I took my car to Phatt Audio Concepts in Mordialloc and they were brilliant, they had my car for 3 days. I got Stinger Roadkill (slightly thicker than Dynamats put into all my doors, for extra sound deadening). I then upgraded my front speakers to DynAudio 362's - 3 ways with 8" Midrange etc..

I then kept it as is for a while, until I was 21 in November 2009, that's when I started getting a bit more serious.

I got a full 3" Custom exhaust from Eurospeed, I had to leave it for 3 days while it was being built. It is by far the best sounding exhaust I have heard. I went and heard the APR RSC exhaust which looked pretty tempting by the description, however, looking online at some peoples issues with them, sort of questioned their build quality. I also think the noise it produced sounded a little artificial. Immediately after installing this exhaust I noticed a huge performance increase as well as improved fuel economy! Thanks again Lucas.

He then randomly called me shortly afterwards to tell me he ordered me an intake and HPFP. I am now running GIAC Extreme. Absolutely loving the performance, it is brilliant.

Awesome Pirelli Dean, you've done a good job young son.

Sounds like a weapon, those brakes must grab hard, i've noticed the GTI ones aren't nearly as good as the R32 brakes so can imagine you needed them with the extra power.

I have heard it over the phone and it sounds very good for a 4cylinder so this video better live up! and i have one mod for you: the driver mod =P

I took Tendys car for the shortest 10 second drive and when i put it in reverse i heard this weird noise then there it was on the RNS510 screen! the reverse camera! so nifty

I've been staring out the window of the train a fair bit lately and the pic that sometimes appears in front of graffiti has piqued my interest. Traction is actually perfect. Especially with the LSD and the fact I got bloody sticky street race tyres (Nitto NT05). If you were in Melbourne, I'd give you a spin.

Yep, brand spanking new! I was testing it for GIAC. Had to send data logs, there and back and there again. I got my new tune and some other guys on this forum already have theirs and are loving it too!

Actually, I can't really get it to wheel spin much anymore. The sticky tyres and LSD have really helped things a hell of a lot!!

Next thing is wheels. They have been ordered. Will post a picture once they are on. ETA 6 weeks!

those items are for his audio set up

fuel rail pressure valve is for the tune because it demands for fuel and the stock one doesnt cut it? also the o2 sensor he meant the spacer or whatever it is that tricks the ecu to not showing the CEL

to be honest, i prefer the LED OEM ones for the MK5...

Do the above lights require custom modifications? like, cracking open the MK6 led's and doing custom work onto the MK5 tails? Or can u buy them like that?

Anyway, I reckon the LED's suit the lines of the MK6 more as the headlights and tails are more angles and straight lines compared to the MK5 where its more curves...but its all subjective. LED OEM MK5 unit would look better IMO

Not because I have the OEM LED's but due to the fact that my car is a MKV and the shape of the OEM's match the shape of the MKV better than the MKVI look ones. They do not look anything like the old Altezza lights. There is no dominant chrome look to them at all and they suit the back of the Golf very well.

I noticed they have an Audi style LED as well. They do look ok at night I guess but during the day I'd definitely want to see what they looked like on the car. As I said above, I don't think the shape of the MKVI type LED's match the curves on the back of the MKV golf.

Cant always trust the tail pipe sniffers with AFR. Does the Golf R have a flapper valve? That could possibly cause some funky readings.

In regards to the awd vs fwd. Guy harding stated in a thread on VW Watercooled recently that the drivetrain losses between the two systems were negligible according to his testing.

Melbourne sucks for reception anyway, from what I have heard from people in Sydney is that it is pretty good. I mainly use it to play avi files off a 32GB USB stick.. such as a season of TV show or a movie :)

I wouldn't bother with recaro's since the car already has Pirelli seats. If they were standard GTI seats I'd be driving in recaros already!
