View Full Version : replaced my centre air vent
my centre air vent has been in and out so many times due to car phone issues and hard wiring my radar detector that most of the plastic tabs were shat.
this not only resulted ina sloppy fit but it also rattled heaps too.
i went to my parts desk and picked one up for only $100! so happy with the result

Looks good!
A couple of questions though..
- What radar detector do you have?
- How the heck does your thumb do that?!

Scary thumb! How do you take that pice off btw? From the back (closest to window) first? I need to get mine off for my dash pod holder!

I replaced mine with a oem storage tray and the rattles are gone!!
Justin i started from the front of the vent as it was easier to get my tool in there to pry it up.

Snappetty snap OK I'll give it a go.
the best tool for prying the vent up is an old credit card. be super careful cos it is easy to bust the plastic tabs. also be careful not to drop any screws.. you will never see them again
there are loads of step by step thread on vortex and golfmkv about removing it.
if you lived in WA i could do it for you.. ive done it enough time on my own and other peoples cars

Mate have you got a part number for that trim piece? I need one too.
I've taken that top vent out plenty of times, you need to be careful with the tabs however they aren't as brittle as the centre piece with the front air vents.
I find starting from the two back corners gently it pops up easy enough. Then you can lightly work your way down to the front and it clicks out.
:)

I just went to my parts desk and asked for the centre vent. They just pulled it up on their system and they had it in stock too. They told me it's common for the mechanics and stereo guys to bust them so they always keep them in stock. I must also ad it's brilliant to make friends with the parts guys. I get everything at trade price there :D
