A show of hands and genuine interest to retro fit OEM MKVI Reverse Camera for our golfs.

A few options in sourcing parts.

I will contact ECS and Derek soon to enquire on Group buy numbers/prices required to make it work.

1. Order OEM parts from ECS which roughly equates to AUD$700 shipped.
2. Order from Kufatec > Link (http://translate.google.com.au/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://kufatec.de/&ei=atzTS4E6zYuQBffPyLYM&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CAwQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3DKUFATEC%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%2 6rls%3Den) < need to check whether it still has interface problems ?
3. Order through Derek European Autotech.
4. Check VWA on parts prices.

In regards to installation we could either take our sourced parts to Derek and get a group installation discount or if the numbers/prices are good maybe Derek will give us a good discount on parts and installation.

I'd be interested in this C, however not sure if my RCD has the video input required and I won't be upgrading to the RNS anytime soon.

So I'll put my hand halfway up, a maybe, without confirming the RCD issue first I can't confirm it.

Cheers Frenchie, the only way that I'm aware to determine is to actually pull the unit out and check the back for the video in pin connector, and not wanting to damage the car nor having any tools/idea how to do so I havent done it.

If there is another way of doing it would be great to know, cheers.

OOOhh me, pick me, me, pick me please!!! Pending cost of course as well, but getting RNS510 seems a shame not to do everything at once.

Good luck with the group buy, its an awesome mod. :)

Nath I'll have look around, but I think you've got to pull yours out to check, unless you can do it via vagcom. But because you've got a MK6 from what i've read you have a good chance of it being RVC compatible.

Cheers Chris, yeah I havent been able to find any info as of yet, even Mav's site stated they didn't know if it was all RCD510s that were capable of the RVC or if it was a specific unit intalled on the factory install when the RVC is optioned up.

Will continue to look into it as its a great mod and would save me in my crappy little garage.

Hey Nath

It wont work unfortunately. Tendy and i tried with Derek's RCD 510, as Its missing a port for the RVC. :-(

nath_mk6
25-04-2010, 11:49 PM
Yeah thats what I thought you can have the RCD510 with the RVC, but I guess its only the correct RCD if its optioned from the factory.

O well, Frenchie take me off this list, I guess I'll look at it later if/when I upgrade to the RNS.

Update: Christophe, gonna have to pull out of this one (wife wants a new LV bag). Plus read all the stuff on the install and though I have an installer here in mind I would probably then be tempted to let him have the car for an audio upgrade as well (which I can't afford atm). Thanks for looking into this though.

pretty sure there is a group buy going down in VWW for anything you want from ECS where theyll pack everything in one large box so you guys could consider forming this group buy with that as well

If you go though ECS shot them an email for the shipping quote, because using their online checkout it comes to something ridiculous for shipping, the guy I delt with at ECS was David Coleman.

I just got a response back from my contact at ECS Tuning.

I think I have managed to get the best price for us: $539.95USD and charged $44USD for freight (that appears just for one unit). I think this would be the cheapest way. If we do a bulk buy there will be GST on top of this, which will counteract the bulk discount.

Who is ready to buy :)

Cheers,

Dean

Could potentially arrange one big shipping quote for a few things of ECS... I know of a few things I want to get off them besides the RVC...

Nice one Dean is that for the complete kit ??

Agree with you if there are more than 2 kits - gst will kick in umm and I know ECS will not keep value below $1k so it may best if we go in induvidualy and aim for a Sydney group install discount instead >D

Thoughts ?

Yes, that is the complete kit. It will take a month to arrive. I have already got a price for install here in Melbourne. $350. I am just wanting to hold off for a bit since I have spent $9,000 in less than a week :S

I have someone who is keen on one of these kits. I'll put my hand up on their behalf. He only just got the RNS510 in and now wants the camera. Appears it's not only the forums guys who get addicted to this stuff. Subscribed for further costings and details.

I'd be mighty impressed if he did it himself. I'm 100% sure he didn't though. It was Derek. :)

It is easy enough to feed the cabling through. It gets tricky at the rear tailgate though. I needed D to help me out, although I see that Maverick had a nice work around for that. The wiring is a bit of a pain. I had Derek and Adam do that for me. The cutting of the body work and parts in the rear are simple enough to tackle yourselves. You just need a dremel and a drill outline the cut, and then dremel the rest. Then paint on some rust protection paint to treat it afterwards.

Coding is as simple as 1 checkbox in VCDS.

Correct. I did not. I just ran through the cabling and took the RNS out. It involves cutting the rear hatch and I know my skill is not up to par. Coding is super easy.

it does, are you running the RNS 510. if so then you could do something similar to what i just did in the passat....

05-06-2010, 11:20 AM
From what I know, the RVC doesn't fit the Jetta, but you could look into it. Wiring is not the problem. It's the emblem size and mounting that might be the issue.

its the same issue that i have with the passat however you do everything else the same and use the passat camera that is installed into the light. Id say for those not wanting to spend the money on the badge camera this could be a cheaper option. I got a full retrofit kit for my passat with all VW parts and control module for $800
