VW Golf5 Variant/Sportline
VW Jetta5/2.0T/Sportline

VW Passat Variant(3C)/R36/V6 4MOTION/Sportline
VW Eos/all model
VW Scirocco/all model

They also do a whole lot of fancy interior bezels and lighting mods for Golfs. More here:

S2T Performance have some in 100% 6061 CNC machined billet aluminum (nice!) and available in a Silver Brushed Anodized, Polished Anodized, Black Anodized, or Mirror (Polished Clear-coat) finish. These are the real deal. You have to take your steering wheel apart to get these on (2hr job).

Arrgh,

Got the Oettinger ones.
Does the job, install in 1 hour including airbag removal(myself) but looks....not so good.
Should have just got the maniac ones.

Terence, go get it!
Maybe the boys at JDM yard would be able to get those in?

Justin Fox
17-02-2010, 07:54 PM
Yes 100% our mates at JDMyard can get these, group buy would be even better and save on shipping. I'll see if I can get some prices. Personally I LOVE the S2T Performance ones above but damn they look like a pain to install!!!

I emailed the guy from ebay link that Justin posted and apparantly they are the international agents of vwmaniacs.com.

He quoted me $US192 shipped.

You think JDMyard could get it cheaper direct?

Justin Fox
17-02-2010, 10:34 PM
$192US seems pretty steep considering they just tape on but I'm not sure about JDMyard getting them cheaper if these guys really are official agents. I'll find out by the end of this week!

I have the OSIR ones in MY R32. This is a proper one that replaces the stock paddles. Taking the battery contacts out et al. It has a nice feel and solid and does not interfere with the shifts like others do.

Awww....no dice for me....6MT here. Any other interior mod bits that I can be "persuaded" to spend money on. Thinking of new leather shift boot in red leather or black with red stitching.

I think anything that double side tapes on is going to cause you grief in the long run. Especially if you car is out in the elements. Might be ok if it's a garage queen.

Proper prep or not, in time it'll come loose. Especially if you use them a lot.

was looking for these myself today as the small ones that come stock are a little too small i think.
However, the price just seems crazy and not sure how well they will hold over time.

Has anyone had them on their car for a while now and what are your thoughts?

I think its ridiculous that no company has come up with a reasonably priced paddle upgrade?

I dont understand why they all have to be CNC machined from the highest quality billet alluminium and cost hundreds of dollars?
itd be good if someone would hurry up and start producing some in a high quality soft touch plastic. Surely they could pump them out for a few dollars each (high margin) and sell squillions.

They shouldn't cost that much as im sure they are made in volume, the hardest part is doing the programing, once that is done, it's all easy going.
im sure they don't have to use 6061, 5083 grade should be enough, heck im suprised they didn't go all out and make them in 7000 series alumiumn .
if i was any better at using a cnc mill, i could use my old man's machine and make some up.

Ok, so to make things easier for people who haven't made up their mind yet

Black - RRP US $225.95 after disc. US$ 169.47

Silver - RRP US $195.95 after disc. US$ 146.97

Shipping will be divided equally on the number of sets. So if we are doing 8 sets total, shipping will be US $5 per set.

Oh and a quick question. The back of the S2T paddles look like they have an indent in them that almost runs the length of the paddle. Is this normal and wouldn't a flat back be better for feel and operation? Or is that just a visual illusion? The indent looks deep yet the paddles don't look more than 0.5cm thick. ??

10d
11-04-2010, 01:34 PM
Hi Herc. Not sure about the indent Shipping to Melbourne will be extra, but should be quite cheap.

This might sound like an insane person's question but here goes:
If you are going to this trouble and removing the steering wheel, is there any steering wheel you'd want to upgrade to? Like a MkVI or Scirocco or other wheel?

Just wondering as I'd buy a wheel with paddle shift if it was a good deal and narrowly missed a UK dsg paddle GTI wheel after being sniped. :(

It is insane, Ben :) totally different. The actual steering wheel is not removed, just the airbag unit to access the paddles.

I just thought I'd ask. I suppose the airbags are difference and the ignition & vagcom may be different. Exhibit A (discussed in overseas forums re. putting a MkVI wheel on a MkV): $314GBP delivered: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-VI-Scirocco-Steering-Wheel-Fit-Audi-Seat-VW-/260563828732

Scirocco R wheel looks different from the GTI wheel:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3629/3549191638_5c5080d3e2_m.jpg
(I don't know what the normal Scirocco has as standard)

ukmkivs forum has a DIY on the multifunction installation and some discussion about wheels with dsg paddles and also Scirocco retrofits.
http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/156872.aspx

Just in case anyone was considering a wheel upgrade, too. Though MkVI wheels may be too much hassle, I'm not sure yet.

Tendy, whatever you do, be sure to get everyone to deposit cash into your account before you do the purchase?

And Bizi: I'm looking into it, maybe later. I think the steering wheel is too big. I prefer smaller 330/350 sized wheels in general but I've yet to figure out how to mount paddles on an aftermarket wheel (Works Bell?).

Yes 100% illegal.

Looks cool but agree with the above. the all look just as big (in diameter) anyway except that real flat bottom one.
You can't really tell by looks alone but 10mm less in diameter makes a HUGE difference in steering wheel feel. These wheels pictured range from 330 to 350mm. I like a 330 sometimes (MX-5 and Jazz) but it felt too small in my GT-R and in the GT-R a 350's just perfect. I've not measured the one in the GTI, feels huge to me though, maybe a 370? I'd love to have a 350mm in there, smaller wheels make a car feel so much more sporty/fun, especially in corners. I consider a steering wheel to be pretty important considering you put your hands on the wheel of a car when you drive but yes, on new cars (airbag equipped) it's 100% illegal and definitely not a modification I'd expect anyone on here to do.

Wouldn't mind if the springs are more heavy duty. Because the paddles are heavier now it feels like the little springs a struggling a little.

100% I love them heaps. SOLID modification for sure.

HercMax
19-05-2010, 02:46 PM
Well I took the plunge to install them myself after seeing the Oettinger video and realised it wasn't that difficult. Took around an hour and most of that was trying to get the airbag cover off and getting the first pin out from the hinge.

Upon testing it the past few days it has totally transformed the feel of driving in manual mode. They feel "meaty" whereas before they felt chintzy and clicky. There's still a noticeable "click' but it's much more dampened and the feel of the click is much improved as there's some weight to the paddles now. The extra reach means I'm no longer searching for the paddles during turns. The metallic feel of the aluminium is very nice too giving you a more "mechanical" feel while changing gears whereas before it felt a little artificial.

Top mod in my opinion. 9/10.

Okay i got the reply from Michael Bello @ S2T Performance. His reply below:

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for the kind words regarding our Product.

We would be delighted for you folks to arrange another Group-Buy. We need a minimum of 10 participants.

Shipping can be arranged two ways. We can ship to one address to save the group some cash on shipping or we can ship to the individual address. If we ship as a group we need to have one member pay for the entire transaction (they would need to pool the funds together for the orders...) and based on the number of Paddles ordered we can estimate shipping. Basically, shipping would be around $60 USD for 10-15 sets of Shifters.
If shipping is done individually, we charge $12.95 USD per order.

As of right now the Group-Buy pricing is; Silver $149.95 USD Black $169.95 USD plus shipping.

We could offer 30% off with a Group-Buy of 30 confirmed orders.

Please let us know what you think and how we can help to make this happen.

Kind regards,

Michael Bello
S2T Performance Products

Dont have the negotiation skills that Tendy has to get the same price but came close. >D Anyway with the USD/AUD being the way it is we may be able to secure a decent price with the exchange rate...
So as of this morning it would be the following:

Silver $149.95 + $6 Shipping --> $171.37 AUD approx
Black $169.95 + $6 Shipping --> $193.35 AUD approx

Current exchange rate this morning is .91 USD.
Now of course say we do by some miracle get an order of 30 paddles well then the price is even cheaper.
I am happy to do the group buy myself if as pooled one as Tendy did but i would require some form of deposit from people and of course i would be happy to provide my full contact details since i am a relatively new member.

I may open this up to VWW forum members too but ill post over there for it, seeing as a few people missed out.

Let me know people!

pretty sure they're the bolt on and not the stick on type but just need to check-any ideas? Not 100% sure which way to go-these tid ones look like they would suit a 1350h driving style but not a 1445 style.

Just need some help deciding

cheers

Wow they look like something out of Star Trek ;) same deal as the S2T paddles, you disassemble the OEM and then they are put into place with the OEM nuts.

I'd say if you were going full blown JDM then maybe those ones, if you're after a more subtle addition then the S2T ones, but for me the TID ones are pretty damn out there and not to my taste at all.

Wow they have even more out there paddles in the see through job!

haha yes Nath they are a bit out there lol!

They'd look ok if they were CF or black I think

Those paddle are very eye catching no doubt about that! Not too bad looking but to be honest not to my taste, i prefer the more subtle look... They have some pretty fly paddles on that site!!!!

I still reckon that the S2T ones blend in a lot more with the overall interior of the car!

So should i put you down for a set of black ones dude??? If so you will be the 10 order in which case the group buy will officially be open! >D

Hi Pat,

yeah let's do it! put me down for a pair of the black ones-are we also talking GTG istall when the arrive for people like me who have NFI lol?

The TID gear is also pretty exxy and I'd safely say they'd be pushing 400-500 USD easily anyways so this will be a nice mod-can't wait!

Let me know what to do money wise when you're ready and good onya for organising!

Thanks Ben, yeah the silver looks good-the more I look at then the more they look like they belong on a mazda. I think the concept is right but not the execution

Anyways, I've wanted to do this mod back when I had the MKV but always held off thinking there'd be something better but the ST2 will be great!

Hey Everyone!
Update. The second group buy is now open. All the details from the reply from Michael below.

Hello Pat,

Perfect!

I have the Group-Buy page setup for Individual Orders. Please visit our Contacts page and scroll to the bottom and 'click' the Special Group-Buy link.
Contact Us (http://s2tpp.com/contact.html)

With 10 confirmed, we will have to set the pricing at $149.95/169.95 USD. Once the pricing is set for the Group-Buy I cannot change it.

We will begin shipping the Group-Buy Individual Orders October 10th, 2010. I have estimated delivery time at around 2-3 weeks. We had a couple long delays during our last Group-Buy due to Customs. In addition, Orders placed late in the month may be further delayed due to our participation in the SEMA Show in Las Vegas Nevada which begins November 1st.

We are not lucky enough to have the Skoda VRS in our Country. However, if my sources are correct, I believe we have a Paddle that will Install and Function perfectly in the VRS. However, I'll need some help. I'll need a couple pics of his current Paddles to see if they are the VW or Audi design. Please have the individual contact me directly. We will offer him the Group-Buy pricing.

You are quite Welcome! We look forward to another successful Group-Buy!

Please let me know if you have any further questions, concerns, or comments.

Kind regards,

Michael Bello

So gents and ladies, group buy officially open. Unfortunately due to the amount of people we had we couldnt get a greater discount but when you think about the current AUD/USD, we are actually getting the same pricing if not less than the original group buys from VWW and VWGolf.net.au.
Postage is going to be a flat $12.95 via international econormy. This way will be easier and people get theirs directly, Just did my pair and the cost came out to $192.98 AUD per pair. Swwweeeettt!!!

Any questions pop em out my way

Good one mate, may have to get some this time.

Is the shifter too close to the wiper stalk on the MK5 or only on the MK6? Assume it's only a problem if you have big hands?

Cheers,

To be honest from the pics it looks like, if you have BIIIGGGG hands, it might be a slight issue, but then when you think about it, youre not actually using your whole hand, youre using the tips of your fingers so shouldnt imagine to be that much of an issue anyway...

Thanks Tendy! Man i cant wait to get mine... Already ordered them and thinking about getting another 2 sets now.. hehe.

Heya just about to order these, quick question do u have to disconnect the battery??
(Cause mines hard to get to due to a sub and amp)

But yeh bit worried about the install, despite reading all the diys, so just wondering anyone here from around Newcastle (or Armidale haha) that have done it before??

illektronik
11-10-2010, 08:38 PM
VW service/repair manuals recommend it. Better safe than sorry. Especially when you think about what VW will charge you for a new airbag.

Where do you have your battery installed that makes it so hard to get to?

boggey
11-10-2010, 09:12 PM
Amps are attached to sub box sitting on top of boot, more of a hassle if anything, but just have to disconnect all the wiring, to move the box up.

Iam more worried about it exploding in my face if anything. I can imagine it being a rather painful lesson haha

Thanks Pat.
Do you have them installed yourself and if so are they easier to use than standard? Just wondering with them being longer on the wheel, whether they are easier to knock with your hand?
Cheers, Grant.

G'day Grant... Mine haven't arrived as yet but from everything I read on here and other forums, these Shifters seem to be the best ones around and aren't too oversized that they would be a hinderance...

A lot of the forum members on here have them on their veedubs and no complaints so far, but I'll let the owners chime in on that one to confirm....

Worst case scenario you buy them, not like them, throw them back on here for sale and lose $20-$30 on re-sale...

Morning Dubbers,
I received an email from Michael @ S2T this morning with the following details:

Hello Pat,

We have Shipped all of the Silver Anodized Paddle Shifter Orders from the Group-Buy; however, we are running behind with Shipping the Black Anodized Paddle Shifters.

Due to the recent design change we have been on an extremely tight schedule to Ship the Group-Buy VW Paddles on our Promised time.
The Black Anodized Paddles we received from our local Finishing company was not to our Quality expectations. We were forced to send them back to be Stripped and Re-finished which has caused a delay.

We expect to have all the Black VW Paddle Orders from the Group-Buy to Ship this Thursday, October 21st 2010. We will do our best to expedite all Orders to get the Paddles to you guys ASAP.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your Patience.

Kind regards,

Michael Bello

So FYI, for those who ordered silve
r you should receive them shortly, those of us who ordered black, a little longer wait.

Greetings Ladies and Gents,

An update this morning from Michael @ S2T re. the group buy of the DSG Paddle Shifters.

Hello Patrick,

I apologize for the delayed response. We have been really busy here getting the Audi Paddle
Shifter production process perfected and making our final preparations for the SEMA Show.

All VW Paddle Shifter Group-Buy Orders have been Shipped and are on their way to you.

We look forward to some feedback once you get them installed.

Kind regards,

Can anyone advise if this extension works OK on a MkV car with a Mk6 GTI/R/Scirocco steering wheel?
Is the stalk clearance an issue for MkV or 6 or neither?

Gday Ben, Rob,

There has been a few installs done already on both Mk V and Mk 6 cars, even an R36 Wagon with no issues, check it out on my other thread in VWW Forum.

Right finally got around to installing them today! Nice and straight forward install which took all of about 30 minutes to do.
Took a picture of with and without the shifter extensions. Makes a huge difference!

http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac152/technopato/WithWithoutS2T.jpg

Also as some members had previously mentioned, it would definately come in handy to have a stronger spring in place, it seems when the shifter retracts, it doesnt do so the same as the OEM shifters, although expected since the S2T paddles are a lot larger and heavier.

Only time will tell at this stage!

Keep posting pics of your installs peeps!

All installed.
Didn't lose springs, but dropped screw down the side of the seat rails.

All very easy, but springs seem a bit weak. Time will tell.

I would recommend trying someone's set before purchasing if your fingers resemble sausages.

Gents and Ladies... I received my replacement paddle today! Thank you S2T and Michael!
Arrived very promptly and the even better news is that it is working absolutely perfectly!!

My biggest problem was then deciding whether to put my black or silver ones on???

http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac152/technopato/SilverBlackS2T.jpg

I ended up going with the silver ones.... I like the contrast of the silver against the rest of the black interior of the car.. :D

http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac152/technopato/SilverS2T.jpg

Thanks again S2T and Michael for your hard work and excellent after sales service, you guys have set the bar extremely high!

Everyone who had the same issue please post your pics and confirm fix.

Cheers,

Pat
