hey fellas,

i work at tech9tyres over in w.a, one of your club members has been chatting to me about some wheels for his car and suggested i join up!

Picked up this thing with a friend, going to be a little project.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c44/WRCjosh/4d936a6e.jpg

1980 mk1, has a 16v mk2 gti motor and gearbox in it, goes pretty well for a 30 year old clunker. Needs some panel/paint, interior is shmick but we're putting some fixed backs in it. First mod on the way - set of these in 15x7

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c44/WRCjosh/2c98459d.jpg

got some vmaxx coilovers and some of these coming too

http://d5otzd52uv6zz.cloudfront.net/group-a11f967f-6bf4-4714-a6d0-a69f87322891-800.jpg

my background is in japanese cars, so this will have a little bit of JDM influence to it.

apart from that, plans are to get the mechanicals up to scratch and just enjoy it for what it is! Budgeting around 7k for the whole project, including purchase price of vehicle, so its going to be a cheap little toy...

cheers!

josh

^ is that the sort of work you guys can do at tech9?
I've got a set of BBS LM I want split, stripped, painted and rebuilt - I've bought the new bolts and bbs specific tools, just need the expertise to manage the process. :)

After a good experience at the tech9 subi store, I'd be happy to do business with you guys again if you do it.

Welcome to my world !!!!! See my point about wheel choice. At least you have a retro car, which in my opinion opens up your choices and makes it 10 times worse. Rock the lower rim diameter, and get the stance working for you. Thats going to be the bomb mate.

I can definately say the silver version and black version will work equally well, but this is going to be completely dependent on two things:

1) Final car colour
2) What other accents you have. Eg are you going to have drabs of chrome elsewhere on the car and in the engine bay, then your looking at silver. With the black ones you are opening up stealthier options, and with the gold bolts, centre script, then possibilities with subtle gold badging. Or you can smooth the shit out of everything, and do that look.

All im trying to say is im talking out my ass, and there are simply too many design options. Really need to see how the car is working, or you can pretend you live in Germany and rock a summer and winter set :)

Either way man, its got my big vote !

more importantly... GROUP BUY OPTIONS TO FORUM MEMBERS :p

I'm a big fan of the body coloured centres with the RSs otherwise polished. Not a fan of then with a contrasting colour but OTOH I wore Colorado shirts before they went bust so treat my opinion with a grain of salt Lol

hahaha! i think we are going to do the body in a dark gunmetal grey, with the bumpers/mirrors/grill etc in gloss black... going for a spruced up oem look. ill chuck em on in silver and then see how it goes i guess!

group buy paul? on what!!! If you can find 10 dudes willing to drop bank on adv1's ill give you a medal!

ebay them man, cheap

Are they copies?

I got mine (genuine, but only 2 piece RM012s) via a seller on ebay.de. They're refurbed though, not new. IIRC I paid about $1450 inc freight to Australia.

They are indeed, were on it when i bought it. they were that gross yellow, so we did some mods. Can of matte black and a dremel does wonders!

Excellent work, really great looking car.

Needs bigger duckbill spoiler on the front, though. Like the one on Lima's car.

I have the standard golf one, it wasnt attached in those images... I dont like the big fat duckbill one, as its very low i'll end up ripping the thing off.

how are these things to drive? im guessing being an older car, its probably a little loud and crashy compared to modern cars. but as a whole, livable as a daily

joshviiv
25-12-2012, 01:34 PM
hey mate. in standard guise, would be absolutely liveable day to day. mine has been lowered so far it sits on the chassis at the front, so hit a bump and it rattles your fillings out, that being said, i still daily it when i need to. depends what your tolerance is like!
