Hey everyone,

Although I no longer drive a GTI, or a Golf for that matter, I thought I'd join in, still know some people here from other forums days...

I did stay in the extended family though...

From the intro template:-
Name: Roger (hence, the nick dodgey)
Location: Sydeney
Golf Model: N/A but I have a Skoda Octavia VRS (Must be one of the first Skodas here...)
How I found VWgolf: from a couple of old geezers here ;) Mostly doctor types...

Here's a pic pre delivery...

Nice! Extended family member (car that is)

Octavia RS would have the 2.0T engine in it?

Welcome, mate!

It's basically a heavier MkVI GTI with a big boot (YaY!). Same MkVI EA888 engine (although tuned down to 147kW), 6speed DSG transmission, brakes and suspension. All for a whole lot less $$$ but the wait time is probably the same... No flat bottomed steering wheel though

Built in Czech Rep rather than Germany. (no great loss as my GTI was built in Germany)

Hey Dodgey, the Skoda looks good - I can't believe you sold your GTI!

LOL, I didn't flash my old GTI, so the chances of the Skoda getting flashed would be almost Nil :)

Yeah, 3 years up, time to sell. Was a touch small for what I needed to do anyway. All that said, I have to say, I actually like the Skoda a whole heap more than my GTI. (That is a scary thought)

As if you dont want 165kw at the front wheels... then you could beat GTI's in your skoda ;)

Nice one dodgey. And, if I might indulge... I reckon the Octavias are very good (http://www.ausmotive.com/2008/11/16/drive-thru-skoda-octavia-rs.html). I like the facelift model too.

I'm still dodgey ;) Otherwise I'd have bought a Golf... LOL

Every so often, I come up for air... Nothing to complain about... Chugging along

I waited for the facelifted model. I do think they do look and handle well. At the moment, age for age, much better put together than the GTI...

Hey Roger Dodger, was wondering what you were going to get. Nice one, still in the VAG family!

Those are great value and pretty sweet having DSG too now (don't think they did originally). Would be quite similar to a GTI (and maybe even built better).

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone :) I think they did have DSG but Skoda didn't order them in. The Scout 4x4 does not have DSG as yet, but the MY2011 should have it. That said, I actually liked the manual. It took about a month for the car to get to me once it landed in Australia, so my dealer gave me a couple of loaners while waiting. (Real nice of them) The Captiva diesel was rubbish (sorry Captiva lovers) but I really enjoyed the Scout (diesel/manual)

It is similar to the new GTI, except it is heavier, so the handling (esp at higher speeds) wont be as sharp.
