R32's suffer this thing known as the lack of a turbo, hence they dont actually go that fast and a modded GTI will smoke you.

    smart ass

GTI's suffer this thing called turbo lag, hence why you can cook your lunch and watch a movie waiting for them to spool up before they smoke you in your R32

Plus, they also sound like an old hair dryer, so dont worry Harvey, your exhaust note alone is enough to prove who's boss

Im on boost @ 1500 rpm with peak torque @ 3000 which is way earlier than an R32.. but yes your exhaust note is truly boss! Almost made me get an R32 until i decided id rather save $15,000 to spend on mods

    +1

The exhaust note makes up for it being slower than a car that sounds like a vacuum with something stuck in the hose.

As Jig (Jose) mentioned, often a nice high flow filter popped into the stock air box will help you, but you arent going to see massive gains here. Just small incrememnts if noticeable at all. But then there is the cosmetic element. Greg's GruppeM intake looks really good in his engine bay, but expect to pay close to $900-$1000.

There is a DIY day coming up at the end of the month. Worth coming along to meet others, and get some ideas. A very relaxed day.
thanks Paul. great help. hit the nail on the head. yep - basically wasnt sure how the car performs. I'll most likely look at an intake of some sort (if theres a significant increase) and remap the ecu.
Thanks for the invite - I'll most likely see you all at the Blum meet..

    Absolutely love the exhaust sound.

if you like your exhaust now, wait till you hear a capristo or supersprint

try holding off on the mods till after the meet so you aint wasting cash before research

    Hi Harvey,

Also worth remembering that like most modern cars, these ones have "adaptive" ECUs which do adjust to the way you drive. If you drive it like you stole it for a while, it SHOULD adapt to that and come on harder whenever you hit the throttle.

Mine has always felt strong off the line but I do have a long-standing habit of nailing it away from lights etc as a regular driving technique.
