    Help needed: HID not working

Hi guys, I have got an aftermarket D1S HID bulb changed on my Golf about 1.5months ago and it was running fine. Then when i started my car yesterday, the "check light" sign turn on and it says to check the left low beam. Then i found out that the left low beam was out. So i thought the aftermarket bulb was blown. Went back home and replaced it with the original OSRAM bulb but it just flickers twice at the strat then it wont turn on. Does anyone know what's wrong with it?

    Thanks in advance

You can't contact the place/site where you bought the kit from?

Have you tried switching the bulb from the working side to the one that isn't working to check the bulb?

    Is it the ballast?

Try swapping ballasts from each side. If not, check the bulbs in the good side. The ballast is the big fitting on the rear of the bulb. I am assuming mk 6 is the same as a 5.

Hey Alvin, any reason why you've swapped the OEM bulbs for the aftermarket ones?

    Have you gone chiseen? =)

Hi Daniel , hahhaha no not chiseen at all (or maybe not yet?), just wanted to have a little blue on the lights there, not a fan of yellow-ish headlight. Plus my friend was selling it so thought might give it a go.

Yeah I really dislike how the R's HIDs are more yellowish rather than white. Was the bulb replacement difficult?

Do you have any links to where I might be able to buy one?

Yes I know it seems really stupid to repeat your footsteps and potentially spoil the ballast but I don't mind giving it a go.

I also dislike the yellowish look of the LEDs

its easy, took me about 10mins to get it done. just take the rubber seal out, then reach in and turn anti-clockwise.

you could look up the manual, it actually has a page showing instruction on how to change it

you can get one easily from ebay, just type in "D1S HID" and you will find heaps of it for sale

Was thinking of changing the DRL too but couldnt find any replacement for it

    Thanks buddy.

I wouldn't mind if the DRLs just stay at max brightness at all times (don't dim when the low beam is on).

Had help from a fellow forum member to enable it via VCDS and came to a page where it said "IF YOU PROCEED, THE DAMAGE DONE IS IRREVERSIBLE AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY". I chickened out lol....
