The steering will thud when you hit full lock (either left or right). Is isnt this you are referring to? Otherwise, something might be loose or not fitted correctly - best to get back to the dealer ASAP to check it over.
I have just noticed that when I turn to the left a thud can be heard sometimes.
I only just started to notice it after the car went in to have the clutch pack replaced.
My question is should I be worried, will it cause any major damage? I am going to call the service department tomorrow to see what they suggest.

could it be a cyclist ? :-)
haha, that happened to me, as a cyclist actually, a van turned left at an intersection while I was doing about 15km/hr thru a (green!) pedestrian crossing, completely oblivious to that cars can be turning even on a green, so heard the skid from my right and I went thud into his guard (was a van, so LOTs of me went thud into his van).
Thankfully nothing broken but my pride (and I was friggin sore for about 6weeks!).
