    5x112 bolts to 5x114.3 nuts?

    As per title

As our cars (and most, if not all cars in the VAG range) uses lug bolts and a 5x112 PCD, how hard would it be to convert it into a 5x114.3 PCD and to use lug nuts?

Are wheel adapters the only way? (found "adaptec wheel adaptors" which seem to do this and works like a spacer)

Only reason why I'm asking is because this would give a lot more options to our cars to be able to fit JDM wheels as well

Anyone know what needs to be involved? Thanks in advance guys.

I think other than redrilling the actual wheels, I'd say adaptec wheel adapters are the safest way to go. Fully custom made - adapter thickness, your car bore size, wheel bore size, pcd, different finishes on the adapters, the list goes on.
Only downside being that the thinnest adapters they make are 15mm which would somewhat limit the choice of offset on the 114.3 wheels for our golf guards.

You've probably heard of wobble bolts before but here's a good video that explains the basics/concept.

The bloke's been using wobble bolts to fit on 5x114.3 wheels on his MK5 GTI for years now and it seems like wobble bolts aren't as bad as they sound.

Also check out the different wheels he's had over the years using wobble bolts: http://squarespokes.com/volkswagen-gti-mkv-2008/

Hes running TE37 SL's at the moment and I think I'm in love haha:

iv been running adapters for years (mostly the custom made adaptec ones) and they are fine if used correctly. usually the width of the adapters comes in handy as wheels need some spacing out anyway, and he helps getting the wheel sitting just right if you know about widths/offsets
two things he didnt point out in regards to the jap wheels on vws is the centre bore, and the bolt size.
while most of the jap wheels are 14mm bolts (and will require the opening of the holes as he did) there is a fair few with 12mm. sure you can just open the holes up to 14mm but there is the risk of there not being enough room.
in regards to the centre bore. sure just slap some hub rings in, but if the centre bore change is only small (57.1 to 60 for example) you may run into some issues of getting a set custom made strong enough to stay in one piece.

from memory some of the wobble bolts are TUV approved... which is a good indication that they are ok to use

Cheers mate. I know you and ray are the go to guys for all things wheels so thanks for replying

the centre bore is 57.1 on the Golf R and the wheels I'm looking at getting, it seems the centre bore is 72.2. I'm guessing I'll need custom hub rings?

Also, technically I CAN get these wheels I'm after in 5x112 PCD but the reason why I want 5x114.3 is because if/when I do decide to sell it later on down the track, it also appeals to the JDM boys as well...

yeah that should be ok, its only when its a small centre bore difference that it can be hard.
Yeah good call, i often think that when painting or changing things on wheels
