    Check Engine light on solid

    Morning Fellow golfers

I have a solid check engine light on the dash of my Golf GT TDI . Hooked up a cheap ODBII and the engine is not reporting any fault codes .

Looked in the owners manual and it suggests that it is an Exhaust issue and that i should take it to a mercanic .

    Question is
    1. Can any one suggest good free software for reading the ODBII data?
    2. Has any one come up against this before ? The light cam on after cleaning the car of all thinkgs ?

    Cheers
    Vex

You need Ross Tech Vag-Com/VCDS, which interrogates all the CAN elements of the system. OBDII support provides only a small amount of the information available (and only for the engine) compared to using the CAN based VCDS software.
If you are in Sydney I can scan it for you if you like?

Ok Thanks for the info Gents, I will see who I can find local to me with access to VCDS equipment.

Just out of interest what would one expect to pay for such equipment ?

Also what does the sensor that you mentioned do ?

    Cheers

thanks for the information gents, An update for the car. The light has gone out and i have not done anything to rectify the issue. Could this have been water getting in some where ? The light did come on just after i had the car washed

If it is like my wrx, after 5 starts it clears if it was a brief transient that caused it. You can still see what it is in the history logs.

You don't need the $350 version, the Micro-CAN is only $250.

It measures the differential pressure across the DPF in the exhaust, the original part number fails on just about every GT TDI. You will have to scan your car to confirm though.

    Hey,

Sorry to chime in a bit late, similar code on my golf before, turned out to be the o2 sensor so perhaps give that a check
