Transmission problem

hi everyone, just bought a 1.8 gti auto, just wanted to rack your brains for info. my transmission won't engage into drive unless the car is warm or when you stomp the accelerator.

When was the last time you changed the gearbox fluids? How many k's has it done. Not the best gearboxes these unfortunately.

ok, found out that the previous owner has used dex 3 oil in the tranny..... big no no, hopefully it hasn't permanently damaged anything.
