Haldex is the 4wd system. It's an electronically actuated, clutch-pack style system. Most of the time it is front wheel drive however when slip occurs the computer sends signals to a pump which pushes the clutch-pack together, hence sending drive to the rear wheels.

However in my car I use a aftermarket controller for the haldex which keeps it at about 50/50 front to rear split most of the time

ok, ill speak to them tomorrow but im thinking that i might give it a miss, purly due to the fact that it hasnt had its major service yet and the dealer isnt vw, but ill see wat happens first really wanted it as well.

    +1

No point buying it if it's well past due for a major service and the dealer is incapable of doing it properly, disaster waiting to happen.

Mine is a 2007 with 110K on the clock and going very strong still - no dramas at all. I can't comment on the dollars as I'm not in the market and in touch with prices but at the least you should have a look to give you a wider range of cars you've looked at so that you can asses value better.
