IMPORTANT tip for anyone who has bought a new secondhand stereo

i have done this exercise twice now with both my sisters GTI and now my own.

if you purchase a secondhand VW stereo unit you will need to know the 4 digit security code otherwise it will be useless.

dont expect the seller to know the PIN either... do you even know the PIN for your stereo? you even know where its kept? i dont!

the good news is your dealer can help you out

simply take the new stereo to your service department and they can find the pin on their Australia data base.
all they do is look at the serial number on the radio unit. they can also tell you the pin number if you have the VIN number or rego from the vehicle it was from

this can be done all over the phone and theres no charge!

They shouldnt be doing this over the phone! It defeats the purpose of having the pin in the first place!

thats why if in doubt just take the new unit into your dealer before installing it! there are also a couple of different serial and product numbers on the radio so by taking in to them they should know which is the one to use.

it alsp helps if you're an existing customer and dont rock up in trackies with no shoes on

zz2 and the Service Manager at his local dealership are so close (as friends) it's scary. My bet is that the dealership are quite comfortable talking to zz2 on these issues over the phone.

I asked them this recently and I had to install it and leave the car there and they unlocked it with their computer.

I made sure I didn't pay for the service.

You can also email the service manager.

Most crooks wouldn't have the VIN number after they've stolen it would they?
