I'm not finding rust issue, but possibly because I'm finding other things sooner that are putting me off before I get to the rust.
We have a pretty even split of 2 & 4 doors over here it seems, I wouldn't say there are a lot here, but enough that they come up relatively regularly.
There are quite a few Japan or South African imports though, and I'd rather hold out for a NZ new one.
My wife already has a MK1 Cabriolet GTI, so I wouldn't be too upset to end up with a 4 door. And I have seen some really hot 4 doors about.

I agree patience is the key, I'm not buying until the perfect one comes up.

    Hey guys

How hard is it to change from an auto to a manual in the Mk2 GTI? Is it worth the conversion or would i be better off finding a manual GTI?

    Cheers

There are plenty of manual manual Mk2's around so you'd be better of getting a manual. The auto box is pretty bad.

As for a conversion, unless you are able to do it yourself, it'll be very costly as it's very time consuming.

Thanks. There is a cheap red mk2 GTI in WA i was thinking about getting and doing up, although it needs a fair bit of TLC (broken headlight, missing bump strips, panel damage, automatic trans).

    Cheers

Looks alright but it's obviously been in an accident at some point. The splitter is missing from the front too. I guess there aren't many MK2's in WA

How much of a budget have you got to fix it up? It might be a lot cheaper to ship a better & manual car from another state in the long run.
