Stole this idea from another forumA showcase for what can be done with a humble hatchback and bit of creative thinking also it's a bit of inspiration for anyone thinking of buying a MK2 Golf, the best examples of custom/modified cars.
The one that started it all - Anders Ranbo's 8vt
Widly regarded as one of the first and most influential MK2's of all time and kick started my passion for the breed way back in 1995. Anders Ranbo's Motorsport inspired 8v Turbo.

Chassis: Custom coilovers (before coilovers were available), 8x17 Compomotive MO's
Exterior: Silver paintwork, custom front splitter, stubby mirrors

What makes it so special: Aggressive stance (way back before stance existed), big power, killer looks and lot's of pioneering detail never seen before on a MK2

Where is it now? Stripped for parts & sold on.
King of the Stance - Randy Spitzer's VR6
Seen as one of the first cars to nail the perfect MK2 stance, low, wide & clean. Owned and evolved over a period of 10 years.

Ground breaking - Simon Sweetland's 20vt (A20V SS)
Evolved over 10 years to become a true ground breaking MK2. One of the first to be taken to a true 'Show Car' level but remaining driveable, first car with a Rallye front end and small bumpers, first to feature a fully chromed 20vt engine & smoothed engine bay.
Specs
Engine: Chromed 20vt

God damn epic rides !! man that's top shelf material scruffman, amazing work
And now for something a little different & the inspirations for my car.
Dutch Typ 19 TDI
Super cool 4 door MK2 from Holland. Built as a daily driver for comfort & economy....but who says a daily has to be boring? This car has a real old school cool style that is timeless.
Specs
Engine: MK4 1.9L PD TDI engine conversion
Chassis: Custom built air-ride with a notched chassis for extra lowness & genuine Porsche Fuchs wheels
Exterior: Fully restored & painted Polar Silver Metallic
Interior: Original & restored brown tweed interior with beaded seat covers.
What makes it special: Old school cool at its best, who wouldn't want to have this as a daily. Built to be used but still a show winner.
Pictures:
Where is it now? Still owned by the same owner, used & driven to shows all over Europe.
For the fun of it - James Ford's 4 door Driver
This car is a real inspiration for me because of what it stands for; bucking trends to build a cool your car your way, with your mates & not following trends.
All work on the car was done by the owner in the street outside his house in London & on a mates driveway. Went through several colour changes, just for shits & giggles.
Specs
Engine: Original 1.6 carb motor swapped for a 1.8 16v on dual webers
Chassis: Coilovers wound all the way down. 3 peice Porsche fit Gotti 5 spokes
Exterior: Kept original, apart from several paint jobs; flat red, flat grey & Montana Gold. All done with rattle cans.
Inteior Original gery interior swapped for a salvage beige tweed interior. Beaded seat covers & bolt in roll cage.
What makes it special: Car modifying in its purest form. Just effing about with cars.
Pictures:
What happened to it? The car was sold, never to be seen again & James Ford went on to build 'that' slammed Black MK3
Very nice post! Will we be seeing Simon Sweetland's and Mike McCoy's entries too?
