MIB II - Custom POI's / Speed Cameras etc

    Hi all,

I thought I'd write a tutorial for anyone who wants speed camera warnings on their MIB II unit (2016+ - 6.5" or 8").

The system will let out an audible 'ding' noise when approaching speed cameras. Very handy!

Don't be daunted by the number of steps. It's actually pretty easy!

Step 1: Download the POI lists from the link below ("Fixed Speed Cameras - National" for example). You can also download other lists at this stage too. You can also download an image as the icon for the lists as well. The speed camera icon is included in the screenshot below

    Download Link: http://www.poidb.com/groups/default.asp

Step 2: Open the VW Germany POI tool page, and click the orange button

    http://www.volkswagen.de/de/navigati...-sammlung.html

Step 3: Enter the following details:

These steps correspond to the red numbers in the screenshot:
    1. Browse and find the KML file you downloaded in Step 1
    2. Tick this box - This triggers the 'ding' sound when you drive past a POI. You probably only want this ticked for your speed cameras list, unless you really want to get a 'ding' every time you drive past Dan Murphy's or something!
    3. Give the list a name
    4. Browse for the icon/image file you downloaded in Step 1

    Step 4: Confirm your list(s)

    1. Click here to add another POI list (optional)
    2. This is the tick box that confirms the 'ding' sound when you drive past
    3. Submit

    Step 5: Enter a name for the POI's (I called it "My_POIs")

Step 6: Tick the box, click Submit

Step 7: Your ZIP file will now download. Save it somewhere

Step 8: Extract the ZIP file to your SD Card - It must be extracted to the ROOT of the SDCard

Step 9: Insert the SDCard into SD Slot 2 (in the glove box of your car)

Step 10: Press the NAV button on your MIB II

Step 11: Press Setup --> Manage Memory --> Update My POI's --> Update --> Select SD Card 2

And thats it! Your POI's should now be stored. The SD Card 2 can now be removed.

Yeah if you're referring to the old Discover Media unit, it should probably work. Give it a try and let us know!

I'll give it a shot when I finish work today. This looks interesting.

    Thanks Primordial! Very handy.

Question: Tas has about 10 brand new fixed speed cameras (as in about a month old). These cameras don't show yet, any idea how long the list takes to update? (List is showing 3 only)

As an aside, how often is a new Nav sd card released, and what's the method of it getting to owners? (Post, pick up at dealer?)

    Hi Bec,

I wasn't actually aware of any POIs for the speed cameras at all using the standard nav maps to be honest. If they are in the standard maps, you don't get a notification when you approach from my experience.

The nav maps are released usually every 1-2 years, and usually you have to buy them through a dealer. Being TAS, the maps wouldn't change dramatically anyway, so if you're mainly buying the new maps for the speed cameras, then this method above is much cheaper, and arguably more up to date (its a community updated database).

Unfortunately doesn't work in my 2013 Highline. There is no option to Update POI's under Manage Memory. Many thanks for the tutorial though.
