Anyone know the mounting depth of the front speakers in a Mk7 GTI?

@zayney - I was told that the speakers were quite deep such that the installer for my new fronts had to make some spacers as the new speakers were thinner.

monkeysrus - I've got the old tweeter from mine sitting around. If you're in Sydney, I can give it you. Alternatively, I can do my best to size it up and take photos if you like.

I also installed a dashcam, however I now have an interference hum when I accelerate etc which is becoming annoying!

    Hi KDG123,

Im guessing you meant that the new speakers were deeper which is why the installer made spacers so that the new speakers didnt sit as far into the door as they would have if there was no spacers? Can you clarify please?

    Thanks mate.

I'm not sure tbh. I saw them making what appeared to be a cylindrical backing to go behind the new speaker and was told it was a spacer so to account for the depth of the original speakers in the door. My guess is that the spacer behind was effectively to create an air chamber to produce better bass. That was my understanding. In any case the sound is much clearer and a vast improvement

Sounds good. Pretty sure you are around the east as a workmate took a pic of your car on birriga rd! If I could get hold of it that would be great. If you want and vag com tweak or two I can trade you.

    Dashcam earthed correctly?

It's not grounded correctly, or it's too close to your RCAs but I bet it's the former as you're getting engine noise

We should do a group buy for speakers upgrade.

I was thinking of going with Focal IS 165 VW from FHRX.
