    OEM amplifier

Just a few questions bout the OEM amp

Ive got an 07 GTI that originally came with the rns510 but I had it swapped out for the RCD500 on delivery (I regret it now but the cost was stacking up) but I retained the armrest cd stacker.

So now I'm wondering should I have an amp under the seat? Because I dont and my stereo sounds like poo..

And does anyone have the part number of the factory amp? Or a good plug and play option? I figure it would be a pain in the ass with an aftermarket one with line level outs and 10 channels.

    cheers

I have the RNS510 but would be very curious to the answer to "78AGU's" question.

It would seem there is no real simple answer to upgrading the sound system. The Dynaudio amp exists as a separate item but it does not seem you can buy it or its impossible to install.
Installing an after market sub woofer and its needed amp and interfacing it with the existing RNS510 seems to be more complicated than rocket science.

The OEM amp is terrible - there are plenty if options, but you need crossovers as well - as the OEM amp includes the crossovers.

    I've got a Focal Solid4 under my passenger seat - it's excellent

Try FHRX if you're in Sydney.

adding an after market amp and sub is not that difficult at all.

i just added a 600W RMS mono block and a 12" MBQ sub in my golf (with the RCD510)

all you need is a decent LOC and some time.

so its a 4 channel amp right? does it have line level inputs?

How have you got it wired into the 4 channels? I was wondering about this I take it you have 3 channels paralleled into one for the fronts and 2 each side for the rear, and you have hi and low pass crossovers wired inline? I was just wondering how that would work with 3 speakers paralled wouldnt the impedence be too low? Or you have them in series?

Or did you just wire one channel into a 3 way crossover?

I know jack about stereo stuff sorry for all the questions just interested to know cos I'd definitely prefer to get an aftermarket amp

    Jason,

What you have done is exactly what I want to do. I don't want to change the existing in car speaker set up or change the RNS510 just was to add a sub woofer with its required amp.

I have done this before on several cars but as you would know its pretty easy with JAP heads units that have RCA line outs and remote "on' power signals. The RNS510 does not make it easy.

What Line out converter (LOC) did you use ?

Would be great if you could go into some more detail, PM me or if your in Sydney show me what you did and I will buy you lunch.

no need for a free lunch.

i used a PAC "Trunk LOC" it was about $70 from memory.

if has the speaker wire inputs, and an adgustable RCA level out put (up to 8 Volts output !)
it also features a line that has remote turn on capability for the aftermarket amp.

i simply pulled the RCD510 out, and tapped into the rear 4 speaker wires, and ran them to the LOC.
i used the rear ones so i could fade the sub out by fading the sound to the front speakers.

it's amazing what a difference jut adding a sub has made.
it took me a little while to get the level setting just right, but now it's at a point where with most
types of music, you cant hear the sub independently from the rest of the stage.
it just sounds and feels like the whole car has more bass down low.

i got the LOC from the car audio australia online store a few years ago, and only recently got round to fitting it.
i just took my time with it, (took many hrs to do, but i wanted it done right)

the AMP is mounted to the floor under the passenger's seat.

    Jason,

Thanks heaps for that. Now I just need to find one. Ryda and straithfield dont have one. Ebay has similar but none with remote out and level adjustment.
