Golf Pasadena MKII 1991 MOD, new engine, help?

Hi guys! I'm new here, and from Norway! (so, sorry for my lack of vocabulary and crappy English sometimes xD )

I was thinking about changing my engine to a brand new one (Info from old engine below)

(It's in Norwegian, but i think you'll understand)

    Produsent VW
    Modellserie GOLF II combi-coupe
    Type 1.8 i KAT
    Drivhjul forhjul
    Reg.nr. ZS13262
    Produksjonsår 08.87 - 10.91
    KW 66
    Ccm 1781
    Motorkode GX, RP
    Typegodkjenning 01510031991
    Understellsnr. WVZZZ1GZNW121031
    Førsteg. reg. år 1991
    Førsteg. reg. Norge 19.11.1991

    (1.8L 90HP engine)
What is the best and easiest engine to change to?
Can i use the same gearbox? I really don't wanna change it :|
I'm going to make it as cheap as I can :P
Going to change to a step 3 clutch at the same time, if you guys don't recommend something else ^.^

Hope for some good ideas! Thank you people! :*

It's a bit late but the easiest upgrade is to fit a 2.0 engine from a MK3. They go straight in and are a much nicer driving motor than the 90hp ones. They don't give a big increase in hp but have a lot more torque. Add a hot cam and some head work and the Golf comes alive.
