Wider Golf rims and tyres on a polo 2010 sports

Hoping someone can help me out. This is a bit tangential to the golf discussion. A polo 2010 has a very uncommon tire profile so much so that I've had to order them specially from my local tyre shop. So I'm asking whether I could upgrade to a wider rim. Will they fit? is it a straight swap over? 215/40R17 versus 225/45R17. Can't find any tyre discounts for the narrower polo rim size
