MK6 Golf R metallic rattling on acceleration

    Hey guys,

Seen a lot of threads related to this issue but mostly for TSI engines related to wastegate rattle.

I'm having a similar issue where there is a metallic rattling/clicking noise. It isn't grinding, it sounds like a coin in a tin can being thrown around. It is proportional to my revs - I can only hear it as I accelerate and catch onto boost (no noise on deceleration)

I recently installed a VWR intake and I'm not too sure if the noise was there beforehand.

Anyone been able to solve this on a TFSI engine?

Mods - APR stage 1 tune, APR intercooler, VWR intake

Sometimes on start up by MK6 R makes the same noise, but goes away once the car warms up a bit. Could be linked to the timing chain tensioner that can wear out. I only found out recently that TFSI have a timing belt but there a small chain for a tensioner or something

Just thought I'd update people on this. Found the issue. It was actually my stage 1 APR tune. I got it taken off in preparation to go with another company and to my surprise BAM it was gone. I assume the wastegate wasn't set correctly so it was doing all sorts of weird things. Im now stage 2+ with another tuner and running close to 28psi. The sound has completely gone☺

Just to add to this - That noise was more than likely detonation - which is not good.

I had the same noise in my old silvia when i boosted it too much and ended up destroying piston rings
