    Alcantara Steering wheel cleaning?

    Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying a GTI 40years. This little problem annoyed me more than I expected.

I saw one at a dealer today with 25,000kms. The red band at the top of the steering wheel was almost black from some sort of grime or just smudging of the black alcantara next to it.

Given that this has happened after just 25k kms, i assume its a common problem.

Whats the best way to clean it, or would it be a permanent staining?

    Cheers
    Ev

I've done just a bit over 50,000km with my 40 years and wheel is in good condition. You get wear mainly around the areas you normally hold the wheel..i assume from the oils from your skin. I hold the wheel at 9-3 so its mainly around here.
You are right though, i have seen some bad examples from other 40 years where I couldn't believe it.

Haven't cleaned mine so I'd be interested in what other members say.
