    MK2 Problem

    Ok it's an 84 MK2 GTI with a 16v motor

    A simple problem?

Hang a hard right, and the motor hestitates, as if there is a fuel problem.

Im guessing that it is a fuel problem but does it relate to pumps or the injection system.

If anyone has any ideas, please reply.

Sounds like your losing fuel pickup as you corner possibly. How much fuel is in the tank?

Could it be electrical though and your losing an earth or similar?

This may not help but is useful a lot of the time.

Thanks for the reply, it seems to happen whether to tank is full or half, need to get in to it and check some more stuff out.

    Great site.

Yer ok so I've run the tank down low and the problem has become a lot worst, fill it back up and not so bad I guess it would be a fuel pick up problem?

    K-jet right.

I might suggest the transfer pump in the tank has a clogged strainer?

ive seen a few mk3s over the years with the in tank pumps replaced incorrectly and they come loose from their mounting position. It causes the car to run out of juice when the tank is around 1/4 full and under right hand cornering load because the pump is laying on its side instead of upright.

If the mk2 runs a similar in tank pump then it could be a similar problem

Being K-jet , it relies on pressure from the main pump. Main pump shouldnt be the problem as its under constant high pressure as soon as it leaves the collector that the main pump sits in.
The set up is nothing like a mk3, because it is a mechanical system, Mikinoz is correct tho. I'd suspect the same thing. the lift pump is Mafkd or the strainer is clogged.
Is it hard to start at all?? If it starts ok, then the main pump and residual pressure holder should be fine.
    87 GTI.
