There are more shots in my build thread, only lost less than an inch of depth in the boot.

Hey AP. You may already have someone in mind if u were to change ur speakers but if you dont, speak to Marty @ FHRX Studios. Theyre located at caringbah and can help u decide what to replace the OEM speakers with. I'm going to them myself in the near future to upgrade my stock speakers and tweeters. Wont be getting a sub personally as I dont feel like I need one but replacing the midrange and tweeters will be great as it will result in a much crisper sound. Will prob end up being cheaper than optioning the DYNAUDIO from factory...and prob would sound as good, if not better.

I guess different people have different priorities though, i love my music, and would actually prefer a good system over most performance mods.

Everyone’s idea of what a good sound is will vary. Some people think that if they attach lots of expensive amps and processing gear to the stock head unit it will make their mp3's sound better. Personally I think that by dampening the oem speakers and reducing vibration the sound quality will be enhanced a fair bit. Because speakers work by vibrating air and they can’t do this efficiently if they’re not secured in place in a vibration free environment. Because most people have shit home hi-fi systems which have searing highs, big boomy lows and no midrange their ears eventually turn into big macs and they try to replicate this in their car. Once you have heard some seriously good systems you realise that you need to train your hearing all over again.

I bought a pair of Dynaudio s3.4’s floor standers at home they cost $10k and they are attached to some fairly high end gear. The speakers are mounted in a solid metal plinth at the front of the cabinet in a truly vibration free setup. It took me a while to get used to them as I thought they were boxy and had no high end. Truth is they were producing a more balanced sound which allows the music to have much more depth. It’s mainly about the mid-range, forget the highs and lows if you get the mid-range right the sound will have more punch and depth. This is what extremely high end systems do better than all others.

Think of what’s in the mid-range: Vocals, guitar, snare, these are the hardest instruments to make sound good. I’m not saying you don’t need good highs and lows but without a quality mid-range the sound is 2 dimensional.

    Rant over......thanks red wine.

Well put, also at the end of the day even most high end car set ups are just wrong due to the angles and placement of most speakers. Can make a car system sound pretty dam good, but still in comparison to a good surround set up or even some of the dj systems i have used, they sound pretty average.
