The old girl is a 1968 Sunbeam Imp Sport, 930cc rear engine/drive, Weber carb. These were the 'up market' version of the Hillman Imp. Made in Scotland, they did not survive in competition with the first front wheel drive micro cars of the time, such as the mini. More info here http://www.imps4ever.info/
(the italian flag is the Club Motori Italia colours, one of the sporting car clubs we were members of in Hobart).

If you are serious about getting an older VW, you need to have your wits about you, and get educated. I suggest trawling vwwatercooled, clubgti, mk1ownersclub and vortex and then dive in once you are a bit clued in because otherwise you will have someone take advantage of you.
Yeah was told the same by an old skool VW mechanic that Ive been buying parts from for my Mk5 lately. Which is also why I kind of hesitated on a few Mk1 purchases recently.
But i will do it eventually.

Just need to find that time between new and growing family, work and everything else!

Yes the Sunbeam's ive heard of but never knew what they looked like....

    Thanks for the info Mick!

I'm really lucky to have John as a friend willing to shoot my cars.

Thanks for the props guys. I do it for me but like others can get enjoyment from it too.

I decided to take the Imp out from under cover storage from winter, about to prepare her for a bit of summer driving.

Haha, the Imp makes the Mk1 look like a family car.

Installed a Weber 32/36 on the Golf over the past few days.

It's fine looking and give a good induction sound along with a pretty impressive performance gain for a 1.6.

    Memories... *sigh*.

I've driven both of those. Unfortunately I didn't own one, I made the regrettable choice of this lemon as my first car... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vauxhall_Chevette

I had at least the good sense to buy a silver one, but with more plastic padding than actual body panels and a ridiculous warm air intake system that blew oil into the air filter!

Mik....that MK1 is beautiful. Nicely customised, but also subtle.

It'd be a toss of the coin (for me) to have a Mk1 or a Datto 1600 (P510) in the driveway. Decisions decisions.
