42DD shift bushing / Dieselgeek Short Shifter thread
One of the biggest bang for buck mods you can do for your manual gearbox is to add some 42DD shift bushings. For about $50 you can change the entire feel of the gearlever, to a much firmer and more direct feel. I've done this on my own TDI, and the difference was astounding. The stock shifter cables have spongey rubber ends, and these simply replace them with alloy and makes the shift pattern a lot more positive.
It's a pretty simple fitment if you just do cable ends, but 42DD take it even further for the 2008 and later cars, and include a pivot rebuild component as well. This rebuilds the sloppy plastic shift arm in the later cars, and is a more involved fitment, but far from impossible for the typical DIY'er. This is the drill bit, black "top hat" and the bolts and washers below.
I have made up a few video's on my you tube channel for fitting of these kits, and the final tuning of the gearbox. They are also up on the DIY video section of my site. I have also developed a Polo fitment kit with the help of the Polo guys, and have these world exclusive 42DD items in stock.
I'd highly recommed shift bushings to anyone who wants a tighter gearchange.
