    Bugger,

My Sportline's air con isn't cooling down either, lucky it's still under the dealers warranty, it's booked in today and it's already bloody warm here at 6 in the morning.

    All good Alan.

Please let us know which parts were needed for the replacement so others can use that as a reference when their compressors go.

    Cheers Dimi.

Well the air con specialist has determined the compressor is dead, the car dealer says it's the dryer/condenser(?), and the car dealer wants to have the car back up to Brisbane for the repair to be done by someone of their choice.

Well, I don't have any choice according the the Office Of Fair Trading (unless I'm outside a 200km radius).

An a/c job quoted by an auto elec ive been to before for my mk3 golfs quoted i think $1000-1500 for a mkv. Cant remember the exact price tbh as it was for a friend but the two mk3's i had done cost me around $950, a little bit cheaper for reconditioned units vs. new oem unit. This includes labor, bleeding of lines and dye testing for leaks, new dryer...

M&J Auto are their name but they are in Sydney.

    Got my air con sorted.

Went to GMS Spares and they sell brand new compressors for MKV for $450 with receipt and warranty.
Took the compressor to the air con specialist and he installed the compressor and cleaned the whole system for $300.
Condenser, dryer etc was still in good condition.

    Total was $750.

I'm very happy with the work done. Icy cold air once again
    My life feels complete now.

I have the same problem. Got my car from a dealer about a month ago. They told me they were going to see if Volkswagen would cover it as it is only just out of the new car warranty. Doesn't worry me how they do it - just fix and it and make sure I don't have to pay anything!!!

Yeah get it sorted out Jono. It's a pain in the arse. Especially when it starts raining.
You should really get it fixed now. The next few weeks leading into December are going to be absolute scorchers. You won't survive.

My 2005 GOLF FSI has just been diagnosed today with an internal fault within the AC compressor; VW quoted $2115 for supply and fit of new ..... I'm on the search in VIC for someone who can fix it!
