Emma you'd be crazy to pay that much.
Do what i did. Source the compressor from GMS Spares 02 9774 5184. Get them to ship to you then have someone install the compressor for you.
Like mentioned in my previous post, total cost me $750.

Went to GMS Spares and they sell brand new compressors for MKV for $450 with receipt and warranty.
Took the compressor to the air con specialist and he installed the compressor and cleaned the whole system for $300.
Condenser, dryer etc was still in good condition.

    Total was $750.

I'm very happy with the work done. Icy cold air once again
    My life feels complete now.
    Great deal Dimi,

Dealer has told me I should have my car back and fully functional on Friday (my fingers are firmly crossed).

I'm in the exact same boat as you Dimi, i just bought myself a MKV R32 07 model, and i need a new compressor and receiver dryer. plus cleaning out the compressor. it's setting me back $1070 which includes everything. that's at Comet Automotive in Albion, Brisbane. those guys are great, they have helped me out a ton since i got mine.

Good to see there are other avenues then the dealers - I had mine (MY07) replaced under extended warranty due to failing - believe it was $2000+

Yep. I was quoted $2150 from the dealer for new compressor drive in drive out. Yeah right haha.

The wrecker explained to me it's such a common problem in 05-07 Golf GTI's.

Hi guys. I have the same problem and took my R32 to the dealer for a 'air cond service' for $150, changed gas, changed filter etc. It came back not much better. A user on Whirlpool posted this thread on VWwatercooled http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...6-52923-3.html

I did a [face][econ] button job and my car is as good as brand new, and saved me a lot of trouble shooting and perhaps a costly compressor.

give that a try and see if that's your problem too.

    over and out.

    UPDATE:

Still haven't got my car back, the "penny pinching" car dealer has strung me along way too long.

I'm so angry right now !

Alan, they should have fixed it already.
I picked up my compressor and took it to the mechanic and the car was done in three hours.

I suggest you go to the dealer in person and have a word with them.

Had that word at 8:50 last night, I got a bit heated with the sales manager (three month nightmare to be honest).

First and last time I deal with this company (they're part of a very larger dealership in Brisbane), I've had lies, broken promises and incompetent mechanics/service people over six weeks out of the twelve I owned the car. it all began the day after I bought it would you believe.

It's been an unhappy journey so far (not to mention a five page documentation of events).
