    thezoneR32’s MKV Gti Project

Yes that’s right you read correctly. I bought a MKV Gti – to play around with. Funny how things happen. Up until a few days ago I’d never even driven one. Then along came this black 5 door manual with leather, which I was offered to buy at what can only be described as an obscenely low price. I hopped in, went for a spin and well, really liked it! Not saying I don’t like my R32 it’s just a completely different drive is all.

Car has full service history, recently re-cond air by VW all belts n thins have been done. So anyway I feel some modding is in order. Don’t want to go overboard.
Here she is all washed and completely stock.

I have a list of planned mods but can I ask for some help here as I’m a GTI newb!

    • HPA KW SHS coilovers
    • Rear sway bar (H&R?) Size?
    • Down pipe & hi-flow cat (will go custom made for this) or maybe TBE but not sure if this is good bang for your buck compared to down pipe.
    • Custom Code ECU tune (because Gavin is a top bloke and will bend over backwards to get things right).
    • Dieselgeek shortshifter (looks like I missed a group buy from a couple of months ago)
    • Sprintbooster (cos I like ‘em)
    • Tinted tails (cos I like ‘em )
    • GTC (Genntech) GT-CX 18 x 8.5 in hyper silver (will need to roll the front guards and do fender screw mod)
    • Intake – no idea which way to go here (BSH from dubaddiction?)
    • Bi-xennons
    • LED interior, driving and license lights (hyper white from tuner domes)
    • Stubby antennae
    • Dark window tint
    • S caps (from parts4euro)
    • Remove space saver spare, tool kit and jack
    • Brake upgrade (what can be done here can anyone help would fronts only be enough?)

Other mods I’m not sure are essential – can anyone please advise?

    • Heat shield (BSH from dubaddiction)
    • Piston diverter valve (BSH from dubaddiction)
    • Catch can (BSH from dubaddiction)
    • Anti-lift kit?
    • Any other bushings or links?

Really enjoying the simplicity of a manual particiulalry one so well looked after, it's a nice change from the "Bull-at-a-gate" DSG R32!

    Cheers

My first word of advice would be to go to golfmk5.com and go to the australian section.....Massive amounts of info and parts in for sale section. I used to go there when i had a mk5 GTI.

But anything that will fit on the mk6 gti will fit the mk5 gti. Same suspension and brakes. Engine is the tfsi with k03. Intake get a forge twin take!! Rear sway bar....whiteline-local and work really well. Take the brakes off your r32 lol and fit to the gti. Exhaust mmmm so many options for a dump. buy one second hand.

    hope this helps

Congrats on picking up what looks like a clean car mate

    • Rear sway bar (H&R?) Size?

H&R make "small" and "big" bars for the GTI. You can either get the 26mm front/22mm rear sways or 28mm front/24mm rear.

    • Brake upgrade (what can be done here can anyone help would fronts only be enough?)

Honestly, if you're not going to track it or whatever, then a good set of brakepads might be a better option. However, an R32/S3 front brakes may be an option for you to consider. They wont save on unsprung weight as they are quite heavy but it is an improvement over the stock GTI brakes. You can keep the rears the same

    • Heat shield (BSH from dubaddiction)

Will help a little to disspate the heat from the engine bay but not really as it can get really hot in there. But I guess its better than nothing

    • Piston diverter valve (BSH from dubaddiction)

Rev. D is the piston dv.

    • Catch can (BSH from dubaddiction)

Have a look at the 42DD and the Forge catchcan too. Forge catchcan can accomodate for the carbon canisters in our cars. 42DD has a mounting bracket for the GOlf R's not sure about the MK5 GTI's. However it shouldnt be too hard to fabricate a mounting for either the BSH or 42DD.

    • Anti-lift kit?

Anti lift kit will be beneficial, esp on a GTI.

    • Any other bushings or links?

sway bar end links by BSH? Not a necessity, but seeing as how ur picking a lot of BSH stuff, it cant hurt to change the stock ones to ones which are a bit stonger?

Also, BSH Torque arm insert and pendulum mount?

Cheers mate, golfmk5.com is quite dead these days I've noticed. good for research I guess.

Twintake looks good but is there any other option than to give one of my limbs to Renennhaus in exchange for one?
