    Nikon D800

For the Nikon Fan boys out there... any one itching to get one ?

i know i'll be waiting to check out the 5D MKIII specs before i decide whether I want that or the 1DX ...
but the stats on the D800 is interesting to say the least... it looks like its geared more towards to the studio photographer/wedding photographers.. based on its spec... doesnt seem to have the low light ability every one was hoping for.... which aint shabby anyway!

I was thinking about it, but might just get a secondhand D700. 36mp wtf, I do not need that. And yeah I could always shoot it at less, but generally u cant shoot less pixels and raw, and if I was gonna shoot it at 16 or whaetever, then whats the point of paying for it?

Keeping an eye on this as well. Have been wanting to upgrade to the D700 since a year ago but decided to wait till D800 is out to see how reviews are.

saad is right though - 36MP - wtf! Apparently, each raw file is 75mb!

    So I'm still undecided.

Forget about pixel count. Look for light and contrast sensitivity performance.

You're right... Pixel count shouldnt matter BUT (there's always a 'but'!), with file size THIS big, it has to be a consideration cos I'll then need to consider whether my current pc can process it, upgrades required, additional harddisk space, etc.

Then shoot at lower MP, you still get the great quality sensor performance. The MP will only be considered when you decide what format (size) you intend to publish.

the whole point of excellent ISo performance.....even when its ridiculously high is to allow you to select a higher ISO.... have a faster shutter speed and still be able to take a shake/blurr free shot.

so eg.... at low light situation... instead of having a LOW ISO.. and having a longer shutter and needing to find some where to stabilize it....jack up the ISO speed up the shutter and still get a high quality shot..

which is WHY .... ISO is the new MP as pharkus said..... camera makers.... from compact and to SLR.. are determined to improve high ISO quality photos

in my opinion this camera's spec points to something that would be used in studio a lot.. tethered to a computer..... with excellent lighting ..the ridiculously high pixel count.. is for the detail so that when it is printed out.... eg wedding photographs.. its more detailed... thats my opinion.....

i'm waiting to see what the 5D mk3 spits out compared to this

Cant generally shoot at a lower MP when RAW, unless you shood in DX format which will crop the lense
