    Canon 70 -200 f/2.8L IS II

This is $19,980hk (currently about $2,480AUD) from Fortress in HK. I would ask that they bargain till it's $2kAUD for me. Looking to have a family member purchase for me and bring over in the coming weeks. Anyone know of any trusted shops to buy from over there? Looked up a few but all their web pages are in Chinese to me (might as well be written in Greek).

I could just grey import it I suppose. Suggestions welcome.

They are $2,457 here in Australia and $2,087.84 exported via the same company in North Sydney...I remember when these were around 4k hehe! nice lens albeit rather heavy tho, definately need a monopod for long shoots.

have you considered the f4 IS version also? they are $1,264 here and export price is $1,092...have to consider if you the extra stops are worth the extra $1,200 i guess...

Why the pictures of the 24-70? this thread is about the 70-200.
You can never call yourself a real enthusiast when you judge. When you mix the immature and mature, you get this car scene we have today. No matter what, every car is winning in their own ways. If you don't like a certain vehicle, just keep your mouth shut. No one needs to hear negative comments. Just enjoy everything.

T-Dimensions s another grey importer. Many choices there for that sort of stuff.

I know for a fact that JB Hifi Elizabeth St has done $2,500 (incl GST), which for aussie stock is pretty good. Unless Robbie didn't let you in on the $2k sale at Foto Riesel!!!

Will go back tomorrow morning to see if they will change their minds before I head off to the GP.

Just found a new "cheap" project to keep me amused over the weekend...

Not looking to go as far as the pic in clear coating it, but may find some wrap and have a play with my lens hoods.

Haha thats awesome idea hust for the hoods. Even though i rarely use hoods that come with the lens.

Yeh t dimension is grey market. You guys dont like buying from grey market? Still prefer aussie retail really? Is it only because of warranty? Cos places like eglobal digi cameras sell aussie local warranty as well on products and they replaced my lens even if the reason was accidental damage not factory damage. As crazy a that sounded. But maybe i was just too chatty and they wanted to shut me up lol

Canon are being real arseholes about their warranties on grey imports. Shouldn't be any different really buying from grey and getting the warranty off them. It should still work out cheaper. I went and haggled a price from a bricks and mortar I was comfortable paying and incurred a small premium for the piece of mind for "local" warranty (which ends up at the same place anyway I think!).

This from Canon Australia website on their warranty (http://www.canon.com.au/Support-Serv...rranty-Terms):

    3. This warranty is valid only for Products that are purchased new and unused
    (a) in Australia or New Zealand; and
    (b) sourced from Canon Australia Pty Ltd or Canon New Zealand Ltd (“Canon”).
The Customer must provide the original proof of purchase which demonstrates compliance with the above conditions to receive any services under this warranty.

    8. This clause relates to goods supplied in Australia only:
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Note the new requirement for any lens be purchased from Australia.

But yeah, back to the CF hood, why don't you use a hood at all? Too cumbersome?

Oh yeh i know that. The guys at the canon place is quite nice though. They wont give you like the warranty if its grey import but i sometimes just sweet talk em to do a complimentary check up. Then when its sth wrong with the lens i take it to the local service centre that approves sites like eglobal digi camera. I like that site. That and bnh photo haha.

Theyre usually a 3 week turnaround anyways if its in need of sending overseas which is how long canon service in aus takes LOL. Theyre really slow here.

Nah i dont and rarely take photos now adays. Quit that proffession a while back. Still do stuff for my car though and others off course. But im mainly in the canon scene for film making especially music videos. So i use matte boxes instead of hoods just cos it fits the rig much more easier than a hood. Haha but i so shud cf my matteboxes rigs pelican cases. Everyhig haha! Thatd be sick! Lol. Itd make my camera lighter and my gear lighter hence enhance performance. Who knows maybe my 5d can stand up against a 7d and get 8fps? LOL
