    HPFP Group Buy - New

    Alright guys. Just posting here until the administrators move to the GB section. Quote from John from old thread;

"Hey guys, we will be looking at another GB for 5 units or 10 units.

5 units will get 5% off current pricing.

10 units will get 10% off current pricing.

If you want to combine different package items we can do that as well.

When we get ready to start this next GB I would like to see a new thread started so we can get an idea as to what we need and what the requests are going to be."

I do want to apologize for my delays in getting back to you guys. My wife is currently in the hospital and I have been playing "mom/dad" for the last couple of weeks. She should be coming home soon and things will be back to normal.

    Thanks,

    John

Please note that there is no longer a 142 bar rail valve. Just 145 bar. As most of us have been waiting a while lets open this GB for ONE Week endiing Sunday 8th April 2012.

John will communicate via PM to each of us once we have gathered the numbers and advise payment details. More details on product and pricing can be found on the HPFP site

John is also available directly by email if you wish to query anything specific however please be patient with replies due to personal circumstances.

    Hi all

Just trying to weigh-up whether this is something I should purchase or not? Unfortunately, I don't know too much about HPFP/Rail valves but if someone could simply explain the pros/cons??

I'm about to receive my DP and replacement CAI before applying another tune, so given that this will likely be the extent of my mods (possibly an intercooler?) is there any point??

    Cheers

    Thanks for the reminder Paul!

Good question, I found this old thread on an Audi site that seems to have a go at explaining. Basically a tune can only do so much with the oem fuel supply and fuel cuts can occur. More fuel = more power. Ive been told even just on my mkv gti with k03 I should expect to make another 20-30kw. You will need the higher pressure rail valve aswell if you get the pump otherwise its limited. You will definatley need to get a tune if running a new pump. You could hang on getting a re-tune until you get the pump fitted.

    Found this too:

"A high pressure fuel pump upgrade changes the diameter of the piston within the pump, which changes the amount of fuel it can deliver with each stroke. The ECU is constantly controlling the amount of fuel the pump is delivering by firing off the solenoid at different times. When you change the internal size of the pump to make it larger or smaller, the ECU will still have the stock diameter values mapped, therefore it will not deliver the correct quantity of fuel. The proper way to handle this is to change the values within the ECU so it knows the exact volume of fuel the pump can deliver at any given point. Likewise, if one were to change the fuel pump cam lobe to a larger one (such as the S3 cam lobe) the cam lobe profile needs to be altered within the ECU so the ECU knows when the fire the solenoid to deliver the correct amount of fuel".

    oh and this....

"The rail valve is where the tuners come into play! The Rail valve is a pressure relief valve. It's basically a safety cushion for the fuel rail so you do not exceed the safe design limits of the rail. The early FSI cars had a rail valve that was known to start bleeding off fuel pressure as low as 110BAR. But when you got your car flashed and the duty cycle of the N276 went up and the fuel volume/pressure rose to feed the demand of the engine. So if you have a lower-pressure rail valve you will hit fuel cut because of it opening and dumping your fuel pressure off. The RS4 rail valves raise the bleed-off pressure up to 130-134BAR and allow you to run the aftermarket HPFP kits with ease. You just have to make sure your tune supplier has this higher rail pressure capability built into their tunes. I know APR does b/c they were one of the first tuner companies to tell the early FSI owners the rail valve was a must-change item when going STG 2 or above."

Good to see more people getting these pumps. Checked my cam follower after 8000km with zero wear. None at all, pump looked good. Been good enough for 240awkw so far and will reach 260awkw before other things stop me. Go for it.

Great info Paul! Thanks - VERY tempting!

Any idea on delivery costs and install costs for both HPFP and Rail valve? This would be the only thing stopping me from buying this now rather than later - I would assume that labour wouldn't be cheap?....

Ben, is your cam follower stock or performance? Would you recommend replacing the OEM when upgrading the FP??

    Thanks again guys!
