Good to see the shudder issue being fixed by replacing the clutch kit - I may have to do the same shortly :|

My car is now 33000km - no issues at all other than the shudders - using V-Power 98 from day one

Love every bit of it, and managed to do almost 700km return from Sydney to Barrington Tops - the fuel warning light still hasn't came on!

hhhahaa love it how 118tsis threads in this forums are only about problems. Yes its a problematic car but its a problem i can definitely live with, the joy of driving it buries all the shuddering hahaha. Seriously though, just keep fixing it til u run out of warranty and then give it another guy and let him deal with it :P
Mine is a mid 2011 and it still has the same issue, so obviously VW didnt really fix much as the call back of the car was before 2011. But meh, still a nice car. I had a leak in the washer... lol that was the only problem i had besides the clutch kit

The only thing i hate about VW Service is that you have to pay for a loan car (not courtesy car) which i sweet talked into making it free off course. But still, then they gave me this wretched Jetta of a car that was dirty and smelly and DIESEL that vibrates like a ........ (insert whatever you want there)

Yep, we did Melboure to Sydney at Christmas, got almost 850km out of a tank and that was with some slightly impolite driving :-)

A Jetta!?!... what an insult. I have never been asked to pay for a loaner? Tell your dealer to pull his head in, they should pay you to spend time in a Jetta!

Happy to go on record and say that for the most part Camberwell VW have been terrific, whether it be with loan cars, servicing, clutch kit. I've always been given a Passat loaner too, and I have to admit, it is a great car (for when I get a little older and greyer). I was stunned how quiet the Passat is compared to the Golf. 118TSI is still a better more fun drive hands down!

Booked mine in June at Chatswood Classic Service, which a courtesy car will be provided

Never been to there before but saw a bit of recommendations on the web/this forum plus it is a lot closer to my workplace than Barloworld Mascot... will follow up with posts

Thought I would piggy back off an existing thread rather than starting a new one...even if it is 118 related!!!

Our 90TSI we just traded in had the same clutch issue. Was fixed under warranty (after a lengthy wait) and was perfect up until 45k when it was traded.

My question is whether our new 2012 90TSI will have the same problem, or were the clutches fixed in the factory before being shipped?

any reason why u traded a 90 for a newer 90? i cant really see the rationale there, besides having a newer car? must have an allergy to money

Leaseback vehicle. They get traded after 2 years or 40k. We loved the first one so much we had to replace it with another one. Couldnt face sitting in a Kia, Hyundai or any other asian vehcile after sitting in a VW for 2 years...

Just last week Camberwell Volkswagen put revised clutch kit into my 2010 118TSI (under Warranty). They completed the job in 1 day instead of the anticipated 2. It has certainly fixed the shuddering issue that has apparently affected 1 in 3 of the cars.

My shuddering was apparent pretty much from day one, but only noticeable when driving politely (which it took me a while to start doing). When I went for 15,000km service the dealership denied any issue, and I let it slide, however between 15,000km and 30,000km the shuddering became dramatically worse and went from an annoyance to adversely affecting my driving, fuel consumption and general happiness in life . By the time my 30,000km service came around (approx Jan 2012), VW were more receptive to my concerns, although I still had to personally take the mechanic for a drive. Unfortunately mechanics apparently test in the back streets of dealership while driving like Peter Brock, so of course they didn't notice shuddering at low rev's/speed i.e. stop start traffic.

Hopefully this is the last of any problems (fingers crossed), however I have another 12 months on warranty, so this will be enough time to weed out any issues (one would hope). Anyway, those who have concerns with their 118, if you have not found VW receptive, then it is time to return to the dealer as the issue is now widely acknowledged and revised clutch available. Unfortunately the high number of failures may mean a delay in getting clutch kit (I waited 3 months). Just be careful that your warranty does not expire during waiting period and DON'T wait until your next service. Get them to order the clutch kit now otherwise you will end up doing thosands of kilometers on the dodgy one while waiting.

No, for the record my engine has not blown up (just done 40,000km), however I lease the car and so enjoy a petrol card and have never used anything but 98 octane fuel.

Hopefully my above experience in the 2010 118TSI after a couple of years and 40,000 clicks will assist others. I'd be keen to hear from anyone who has had the revised clutch longer them me (1 week). How it is going? Anything to watch for?

    Cheers, Donovan
Hi, Could you please describe the Shuddering issue in details? i think my car has the similar issue, ever since i got the car on day one (Oct 2010)!!

It is quite obvious when i drive in low speed with 4 ppl in total. i wasnt aware of it too much when i drive alone.

I might take it to dealer for fixing after confirming with you guys as the warrenty is expired this Oct.
