I'm mainly leaning towards GIAC because its local for me and Arthur rocks, however I'm unsure about power figures though i'm sure all stage 1 should yield about the same figures (base stock with JUST a tune, no intake or whatever), and from what i hear thats 180~kW at all 4 wheels?

Your figures for a stage 1 is really good lucas, especially with an intake and downpipe extra.

@ morph, sorry for noob question but what do you mean when running lean ?

Sorry if i came came across as blunt in my earlier reply to you - its a busy day at work and i was trying to quickly reply to you. As you mentioned, the twin tailpipes make an accurate A/F measure a bit more difficult. I might double check with DNA about the A/F ratios just to be 110% sure, but i dont think its anything to worry about. If DNA says otherwise, they can tweak the file to run a bit more fuel down low.

Don't forget, this is essentially an "off the shelf" or "intenet" tune. I have only been provided this 1x file and it has not been revised / altered etc. I haven't even done any VCDS logging with it at this stage. And the fact that its a stage 1 file but im actually running stage 2 hardware might be affecting the A/F ratios too. A dedicated stage 2 file would most likely address this.

    This is true.

Yes, i can switch back to the stock map in about 10-15 mins. You can also use the hand controller to read ECU fault codes and clear them which is handy.

Several reasons Joy - i felt more confident and comfortable talking to DNA about a tune than i did with Viezu. I was also keen to try something a bit different to everyone else. And price came into the equation as well, i really didnt want to spend more than around $1,000.

Not sure if you are aware, but a Viezu tune + the optional hand controller is around $1,400 now.

As for fuel consumption, im getting 10.6 L/100km at present as my overall average. On the freeway im getting around 8.5-8.9 or so. Its definetly using less fuel from when i had the Bluefin (Bluefin ran really rich). I only drive the car about 100km a week on average so i don't worry too much about fuel consumption.

Certainly worth considering. Their price is very good and they provide a smooth and powerful tune.

What he means by "lean" is, he is referring to the ratio of fuel to air that the engine is using. Rich means thats is using too much fuel, lean means not enough. You need to find the right ratio.

Most Golf R's with a stage 1 tune (no other mods) are getting around 180kw, give or take a few kw's. This was proven at the dyno day a few weeks ago, with several GIAC tuned Golf R's hovering around the 180kw mark. There was a GIAC stage 2 car which had 187kw.

Basically means according to the AFR figures there isn't enough fuel in the tune or the tune's timing is pushing power at a dangerous level without leeway extra fuel for combustion, generally Turbo cars should run a bit richer in WOT to be safe.

Just be safe man, last thing you wanted is pinged piston heads or a blown engine!

True - maintaining the engines reliability is paramount to me. I want to keep this car for 6-8 years (possibly longer) so it needs to be 100% running well. Im happy to trade some power for the safety of the engine.

Thanks for your answer, Lucas. Happy to know u satisfied with the outcome and it seems a great choice on Tuning. I will do more research on that and make my own decision for tune later.
