It happened a couple of times, then I just parked it in the garage.
I'll see what happens tonight.
If it does have an issue, hopefully the extended warranty I bought for it, covers it.
Has it happened only once? if so, forget about it...
Numerous occasions? get it check..
My mechatronics unit was replaced (2008 GTI) vw warranty job - "Thump" "Bunny Hop" "Jerk" from 1st to 2nd, and also into 3rd
Complete fixed now.

I had the same problem but in lower gears. It was often in 2-3rd / 3-4th. It also only happened in 'd' mode.. Never in sports or trip tronic.
I got someone to reset and re-calibrate my dsg gearbox with the vcds (vag-com) cable.
It didn't help straight away, but eventually it got better untill now that I have no thumping gear changes at all (knock on wood)
Hopefully it's just that and nothing else mate!
Its a strange fault as it only occurs on low rev range and on 5th-6th only.

Im guessing if you have your foot on the accelerator it doesnt make the thump noise.
Let us know how you go.
It seems to happen when it reaches normal operating temperature. When its cold, I don't notice it. Maybe I'm being a nit-picking p*ick, but I'm sure its never done that before.
Its booked in next Wednesday for a 60k service. I've got around 53k on it atm.
I'll post an update next week, for future reference.
Cheers guys.
I've got exactly the same issue, light clunk on change 5th to 6th on very light throttle only. Definitely a wrong sound. Due for a service shortly, so will be getting mine looked at then...

anyone on the forum know how to reset the dsg via vagcom?
An update.
Took the car to the VW service centre (not sure if I should mention which one) yesterday for servicing and the DSG issue. They reckon there is nothing wrong with it. Apparently its normal, as it's a manual gearbox controlled by electronics. No fault codes found.
They could have just said that to avoid any warranty claims and in 3 years time tell me: "The gearbox is playing up"
I think I'll take it to the VW Village in Kensington. Maybe they can shed some light.
I use this awesome website called google.com you can type all sorts of stuf in and it finds answers from all over the internet in fractions of a second. Brilliant!
This is what dsg reset ross tech got me.
