Gears kaput.

Hi there -

So I've just lost all gearing int Mk6 Golf?

It was purring along until I hit an intersection, then it just won't connect into any moveable gear! Irrespective of the gear I choose (forward or reverse or dsg auto or manual).

And in the central VIS screen, the gearing system is flashing? Irrespective of the gear it's in (or not in) - the corresponding letter is flashing.

Any solutions would be highly valued as the roadside assist was useless and WA RAC want a fortune in towing!

Roadside call them your gearbox sounds like what mine did a few years ago. Needed a new gearbox and mechtronic unit.

You should not pay for towing its VW problem. Call the number on your windscreen

MK6 gti dsg same as your just stopped working. no gears. took VW 5 weeks to get me a new one. Have a look at your roadside assistance brochure it explains all that your entitled too. If not ring customer service on the card supplied to you

Ok - update...

I've called VW who have confirmed I might be out of a car for up to 6 weeks.

Theyve ALSO confirmed that they WON'T be supplying a car in the mean time.

This is the funny bit. I called HBF (local WA provider) - who (and I sh*t you not) have stated... "Actually we have 2 databases and only one works on the weekend - and your's is the weekday database - so I can't organise a hire car for you as I cant verify your policy until Monday morning!"

So, if I need a hire car FOR A 13 MONTH OLD VW GOLF with a cactus gearbox - I'm out of luck unless I pay for it myself...

Seriuously guys - I love my Golf and everything? But if this is VW's attitude to after sales warrantee jobs - I'm going back to BMW

They won't give you a car until they check it and make sure its a warranty job. Then they will supply you with a car. You should have one tomorrow. Don't stress

I am not sure are You talking about HBF (insurer - they are usually providing car after accident (when box ticked)- max 2 weeks) or VW... according to warranty Terms and conditions:

"Volkswagen Group Australia guarantees that within the relevant warranty periods any part or component of your vehicle that is found to be defective from manufacture in materials or workmanship will be repaired, replaced or adjusted by any authorised Volkswagen Dealer free of charge ...

The owner/customer/agent of the vehicle is responsible to present the vehicle to an authorised Volkswagen Dealer at their expense and to collect the vehicle at their expense, in the case of all warranty repairs.

It is not a requirement of these warranties to be provided with alterative transport."

so it is dealers good will - they are making money on warranties.

when water pump on my 118 TSI was replaced (3 days without car) when it was replaced on GTI (2 days car provided - other dealer)

... anyway "Shelley6148" I hope You can find dealer who is happy to provide You with replacement car and that You problem will be fixed much faster than estimated. good luck
