View Full Version : Group Buy on OEM red coloured coil pack wiring harness cover for 2.0T FSI and TSI

Lucas_R
21-02-2013, 05:10 PM
ALL SOLD

Ok so ive found a place overseas that is selling these red OEM coil pack wiring harness covers. They fit both the TSI and the FSI 2.0T engines as found in the MK5 GTI, Mk6 R, Scirocco R, Mk6 GTi, Octavia vRS, Audi S3 etc.

Note that the harness cover needs a slight modification to fit onto the TSI engines to clear a sensor.

This cover will look great along with red coils, and will brighten up the otherwise dull engine bay. Anyway, i'll be buying 2 (one for me and one for a mate) so i thought i may as well see if anyone else was keen.

Shipping price varies depending on the quantity ordered, but the local sale price from me to you would be around $45-50 (TBC) each delivered to you (this would cover my initial cost of the red harness covers / shipping to Aust / postage from me to you, and a few dollars for my efforts).

ALL SOLD

Ok so the red coil harness covers arrived today. They look really good. I have had 2 or 3 people pay in full already so i will ship those ones out tomorrow. The total cost for these will be $48 which includes delivery from me to you.

As mentioned in my initial post, these covers are originally designed to fit the FSI engines (like Mk5 GTi / Mk6 R etc) but can also fit the newer TSI engines (like MK6 GTI) with a small mod. Do those of you with a TSI engine want me to do the mod for you? Or do you want to do it yourself. All that is needed is to carefully cut 2x tabs off which don't suit the TSI engine.

And just to confirm - below is the list i have been keeping of people payments etc.

Have never received deposits from BenR, CJY, newtype0531. Did you guys receive a PM from me a few weeks back with payment details?

Ok im happy to say they fit well and look good.

I do apologise for not sending these out on Friday as promised - but i wanted to be 110% sure that these would fit....and they do.

I'll do up some instructions in the next day or so for you all to follow, but it will take 20mins or so to do and the only tool(s) you need are one or two small flat blade screwdrivers which are used to push the tabs in to release the clips on the stock black harness cover.

I will be posting a bunch of these out tomorrow (Monday) and the balance on Tuesday.

Removing stock black harness cover to fit the red harness cover

Don't attempt this with a hot engine as you will burn yourself.

Tools needed: One or two small flat blade screwdrivers

Step 1 - (Optional): Remove intake pipe to get better access to the area. This is up to you and isn't necessary. Depends how big your hands are etc and also the type of intake you have.

Step 2: Unclip the harness away from the 4x coils (as if you were going to change a coil) which will allow the harness to move around and give you better access to it.

Step 3: Starting from the side closest to the battery, use a flat blade screwdriver to carefully push in the clips on the black harness cover. Once you have unclipped one or two of them, the top and bottom section of the harness will start to become apparent. Keep using the flat blade screwdriver to unclip all the clips on the harness. As you near the end, you should be on the drivers side of the car.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/19/vynu8yja.jpg

Step 4: The black harness will now be able to be removed (top half and bottom half) and put aside. You will see the bare wiring harness.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/19/yrujeha3.jpg

Step 5: Get the new red harness and slide the bottom piece into place under the bare wiring harness. The harness slides into place around each of the 4 connectors which go onto the coils.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/19/6ubusypu.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/19/za6ugu6e.jpg

Step 6: Once the bottom section of the red harness is in place and sitting correctly, you can place the top section into place and start to click all the clips into place. There are about 20 clips or so so make sure all of them click into place. Make sure that the 2 sections of the harness are correctly aligned so that everything will click into place correctly.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/19/yju2u7u2.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/19/3y7y4yta.jpg

OPTIONAL STEP: One thing i have done with mine that might be a good idea for the MK5 GTI and MK6 R guys is to put 2x little screws (about 1cm long) through those little tabs and into the cam cover.

There are screw holes there (in both the harness and the cam cover) so not only does it look a bit more complete, but its a safety net incase which would stop the coilpack harness from unplugging from the coils.

This may have been put there by Barloworld when they found that my Coilpack liner had cracked on the underside in two places during my first ever service there when I purchased the car.

Seems they didn't come standard if I'm the only one who has them.

OK i have refunded the 3 or 4 guys with MK6 GTI engines as i was not happy with the fitment of these on the newer TSI engines. Although i was assured these would fit ok on the TSI engines it is not the case. Sorry about this guys - please check your refunds have come through. (Ben_R / granturismo / Tuz)

Luckily they DO fit perfectly on the TFSI engines like the MK5 GTi, Audi A3, Golf R and Audi S3 etc. Ive still got a couple left if anyone is interested.

Quick question,

Does this replace the harness (incl. tabs) or just go over the top.

Reason for asking is, I have 1 broken tab where you have to press to release the harness from the coil pack.

Its a replacement cover for the harness (you take the stock cover off and replace it with the red one - see my pics/instructions a page or two back which will make it more obvious). The actual wiring harness is untouched. I also have a broken tab on one of my coils (dumb flimsy plastic).

For anyone interested in buying a red coil pack harness conduit, I ordered mine direct through the local Audi dealer. Obviously it was dearer than somewhere like ECS Tuning, but when you factor in freight cost vs. local pick up the $38 I paid isn't that bad.
