Hi Guys & Girls,

Recently I have been looking into the Tyrol Rigid Collar Subframe Kit. Item can be viewed here: http://www.tyrolsport.com/volkswagen%20audi%20gti%20jetta%20a3%20TT%20TTS%20 TTRS%20subframe%20clunk%20repair%20rigid%20collar% 20bolt%20kit

It is quite pricey for some bolts but its seems to have garnered some good reviews:

http://vager.org/2012/11/19/review-tyrol-rigid-collar-subframe-kit/

http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48759

I think there was a group buy started here back in 2012 that didn't take off. I was just wondering if anyone else here was interested in this?

If we can gather enough interest, maybe we can start a groupbuy for this? Greg from tyrolsport is happy to set discounted levels for 10 pieces 20 pieces etc. If interest is high I can talk to him further about this including postage.

Many Thanks

I installed their kit. It tightened up the front when I installed the kit. It can be done by anyone with some mechanical ability but you may need a front wheel alignment afterwards as bits are moved around. I thought it was money worth spending at the time.

Semi interested, will do some more research.

oh yes! interested! Been eyeing these for some time now but $200+ for some bolts seem pricey.
Keen to see the discounted price :)

They also make a caliper stiffening kit, that get good feedback too: http://www.tyrolsport.com/brakes/tyrolsport-brake-caliper-stiffening-kit-for-vw/audi/
Not sure whether we can negotiate something for this too, if there is interest? or will it complicate things? Anyway, I'll leave it to OP to decide :p

The kit is more than a couple of bolts. There are specially made spacers that line up each of the suspension parts with locating dowel type extensions. The parts have free play of a few millimeters from factory and after these are fitted everything is tight so doesn't walk around, thus keeping the alignments precise. I would like the caliper kit next if there is an opportunity for a discount.

I will email Greg from Tyrol Sport about the possibility of the caliper stiffening kit becoming part of the group buy and see what he says. I seem to get responses from him at the start of each day.

Just fitted the subframe rigid collar kit today & have to say now the bolts align perfectly centre in the bolt holes of the subframe/control arms whereas before installation the bolts did sit off centre of the sub frame/control bolt holes. That would indicate to me the subframe is now sitting where it should. Allow a good couple of hours with jacking up etc to do this mod. Sorry to intrude on the GB but thought this relative to the cause.

Will be interested in the Calliper stiffening kit if this goes ahead.

So I have gotten a reply from one of Greg's colleagues this morning.

The prices for these kits if you were to buy them individually would be:
Subframe Collar Kit - $210USD + $45USD shipping = $255USD per kit.
Caliper Stiffening Kit - $95USD + $45USD shipping = $140USD per kit.

The price discount for this group buy if it goes ahead will be:
Subframe Collar Kit - 15% off 10 kits. 20% off 20 kits. Which means if we get 10 kits, each kit will be $178.5USD. + $10 shipping (I still waiting for confirmation on final shipping amount but 10-15 is my estimate per kit). If we get 20 kits, each kit will be $168 + $10 shipping (I still waiting for confirmation on final shipping amount but 10-15 is my estimate per kit).

Caliper Stiffening Kit - 20% off 10 kits. 25% off 20 kits. Which means if we get 10 kits, each kit will be $76USD + $10 shipping (I still waiting for confirmation on final shipping amount but 10-15 is my estimate per kit). If we get 20 kits, each kit will be $71.25 + $10 shipping (I still waiting for confirmation on final shipping amount but 10-15 is my estimate per kit).

As you can see, shipping is yet to be finalised. It should be shipped to Australia as one package to one location and then distributed among us. Hope you are all happy with these prices. I will update the first post with the list of people interested. Please let me know if you want to be added or removed from the list. Thanks.

For those wanting a walk kit, it is only needs if you have an early walk setup. The new style doesn't need the cut off washer. Check the tyrolsport site for pics. At worse case, if you have the old style, five minutes with a hacksaw on two washers will fix it.

I'm in a predicament then because my left side was installed a few years ago and the right was replaced after an accident recently and I won't be home before the ordering starts in order to have a look but I do still have the new left side which can be installed at the same time so maybe non WALK kit? Thoughts?

Perhaps it would help everyone grasp how many people have signed up so we could probably help pass on the word.

The difference is one washer each side, has been cut to allow fitment where the walk kit body was close to the bolt. The newer walk kit has a milled face and doesn't need the modified washer. They fit if you don't have the walk kit.

That's strange though, pardon my lack of understanding but, having a glance at both the white-line anti lift kit and the Superpro anti lift kit
what would be the difference between them?

I guess this would be the easier way to help others.

If I have/plan of having:
-White-line Anti Lift Kit = Rigid Collar WALK setup
-SuperPro Lower Control Arms ONLY = Rigid Collar OEM setup
-SuperPro Lower Control Arm WITH Superpro Anti-lift Kit = Rigid Collar WALK setup
-None of the above modifications = Rigid Collar OEM setup

Are these statements correct?

You need the WALK kit, only if you have a WALK (Whiteline Anti Lift Kit). All others use the standard OEM kit.

I dont know whether I should mention this, but after reading around, for the WALK I notice that there is a different subframe kit for the "gen 1" and "gen 2" WALK. As you can see from the image below, the older gen WALK doesn't have a recess for the collars, I'm not sure whether the WALK kit they have now will fit...

I've look into it now just quickly and found these two links:
http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1251631
http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49415&page=5

In the post he says "There are upgrade kits for Whiteline "WALK" Gen 1 owners and Gen 2 owners". In the first link about half way down his post he says "I sourced the TyrolSport DeadSet Front Subframe Collar Upgrade Kit for the Whiteline Anti Lift Kit (WALK) which consists of two bottom bushings for either the Gen 1 or Gen 2 version of the Whiteline Anti Lift Kits (WALK)."

So I am guessing we will be fine? Trying to find what year the gen 1 was revised to gen 2 WALK but didnt come up with much. I will send an email to see if we need to specify which gen WALK we have or if the WALK kit they supply will be okay for both.

3083171
10-10-2013, 02:45 PM
Just got an email from them:

"We will be shipping you the next generation kits which are compatible with all whiteline generations, supaloy, and stock. So every kit will be the same and cross compatible."

I sent a reply for more clarification on how this will effect the price, as I was under the impression the WALK kit version was 10$ more than the stock/supaloy version. Keep you guys updated.

But at least its good to know it will definitely fit.

I was thinking 😊 sorry. One reason the collars are so good is that the subframe has the dogbone from the engine pulling and pushing it all the time. With the collars, the subframe cant be pulled around by the engine. Just a thought to highlight one of the reasons for fitting the kit. The obvious other one is the wheel alignment going off with the movement.

Hey guys, we're all very excited to get this kit, but I stumbled across two instances of the collar of this kit failing on golfmk6.com.

http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67475
http://golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67499

This could be just one off situations, but on the 1st thread at post #6, another member also encountered the same issue, which makes 3 people with the same issue. Then I recalled, Albert (OP) mentioned that TyrolSport had a "new kit" that would fit both cars with with/without WALK. Could it be an issue with their new kits? These issues also occurred during the same time, as both the above threads were created only today.

Hmm..what do you guys think? Should we get clarification from TyrolSport or just go ahead?

Clarification first. You cant turn back when it's done.

This was the response I got "These are very isolated instances. In many cases posted it turned out to be something other than our product."

I guess during the install don't force anything in as they need to be perfectly aligned.

Mike is happy to answer any other questions and concerns at <[email protected]>.But due to the time difference you not have to wait a bit for the reply.

I have installed this kit without any issues & I'm sure others have to with the same positive result. If you take your time & make sure
a. The washers have been inserted correctly between subframe & body &
b. Make sure you have all bolts started 1st before attempting any further tightening of individual bolts it should all go together.
Remember the washers are there to reduce bolt to hole clearance so yes you may need to wiggle a bit here & there. Too many times have I seen on other applications where a bolt gets started & pretty much gets tightened up before any attempt has been made to start other bolts 1st. Try the bolt through the washers 1st just to confirm the bolt fits as a precaution, if all is ok then follow the procedure & you should be ok!

From what I read, they may have bolted some bolts up tight before fitting all of them. Everything should be fitted loose before tightening and do them all up slowly a bit a time and wiggle the subframe to ensure seating it correctly. I also used a thread lube and torqued to spec. Take your time, have all the right tools and everything should be good. Then get a good wheel alignment after it is done. If you are planning LCAs at the same time works well and saves a repeat alignment.

yeah, seems so...I shared this because I found it odd that a few of these happened at the same time, with the same bolt... hence my worry whether it was because of their 'new generation kit"

Yes your correct, Australia Post will do the delivery of the item, if it wasnt delivered they should have put a card in your letterbox telling you its being held at yourt local PO.

Sometimes contract parcel carriers will hold the item in there van and retry delivery tomorrow, which they shouldnt do by the way.

I am actually down $600 because once I had the invoice settled, there were about 4 late comers that wanted in on the groupbuy. Not wanting to disappoint them and not wanting to delay the order for the original members, I paid for the 4 late comers orders with my own money to get the order processed. Its been 2 weeks and 2 of them are still not responding so there will be a few kits in the classifieds section trying to recoup the money I spent for them...

Anyway, I called this morning and they said the package should be at the post office for me to pick up. Heading there during my lunch break.

Where can I get the Subframe collar kit in Australia?
Got a knocking noise and i think this will fix it.

the VW factory solution is 2 shims between the subframe main section and the vehicle body/frame along with 2 significantly stronger bolts with large washers. It works and costs less than $30 in parts.

Still won't be as tight as the tyroll collar kit but it doesn't have to be if you're not subjecting the car to extreme usage. I still get the odd knock when loading the car up on steep inclines and changing between Drive and Reverse, but that's the only place i can replicate the noises so i'm pretty happy. Had it done at Prestige and Performance.

I received mine today but just want to clarify something

On the packet, there is a sticker which says

"TS-DSC-SS Deadset Subframe Collars"

And underneath it, it says "WALK compatible" with a box next to it which has an "X" filled in the box.

http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg506/realityfromwords/2013/IMG_20131112_161449.jpg

Does the X mean that it this rigid collar set I have is NOT compatible with WALK and therefore, the correct one I need (i.e OEM)

Or

Does the X mean that this rigid collar set I have IS compatible with WALK, making it useless to me since I have the SuperPro's and need the OEM rigid collar application?

Hi Stephen, I inquired about this before and was assured we will be receiving the next generation kits and that "These next generation kits are compatible with both Gen1 and Gen2 WALK kits, as well as Supaloy and stock. There is only one part number from here forward."

So the kit you received should be cross compatible with whatever setup you have. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply mate. So basically, from here on forward, it's going to be just the one part number for all 3? (WALK, supaloy, stock)?

The $10 would have been the flat rate shipping price I applied to everyone to get it from me to you in a padded parcel bag.

Ended up costing more because each kit was 515 grams. Under 500 grams and it would have been a different price bracket :(

You only have 2 new bolts. Not too sure mk5 still uses stratched bolts if there wasnt any updated version (half pain and half thread)that cant be reusable.
My one looked fine(probably its audi?) You d better get some m8 bolts?( could someone slearify this plz) that Audi cars and Passat share for their subframes.
